AMELIAS POV
Kai and I were walking back from the party. Kai drank a little bit I don't think they were drunk. I stepped outside and it was freezing. I should have brought a jacket. Kai looked back at me and chuckled. They took off their flannel and draped it over my shoulders.
"Oh Kai it's fine," I started and tried to give their jacket back.
"Amelia you're shivering take it," Kai insisted.
"Okay," I nodded. It was almost pitch black out, but neither of us had a car, and Kai had been drinking.
"Kai?" I asked.
"Yes" Kai said.
"Would you mind holding my hand?" I asked.
"Scared you'll get lost?" They said and grabbed my hand.
"Maybe," I shrugged, but I really just wanted to hold their hand. We got back to the dorm and Kai laid down on their bed without even taking off their shoes.
"Is this drunk Kai?" I laughed, "sober Kai would scream at the fact that the shoes are on the bed."
"Ugh you're right," Kai said and kicked them off. They were slightly drunk but not intoxicated. I walked by their bed and Kai grabbed my arm.
"Come lay with me," Kai said.
"Are you drunk?" I chuckled.
"Amelia," Kai complained. I wasn't complaining, I wanted their company. I laid down next to Kai and Kai looked at me.
"You don't have to lay here if you don't want to," Kai shrugged.
"I want to," I said.
"Okay," Kai said.
"Did you enjoy the party?" I asked.
"Yeah," Kai nodded, "except some of the guys I met were annoying, they kept saying annoying stuff."
"Like what? We're they misgendering you?" I said angrily.
"No," Kai said, "nothing like that."
"Then what?" I said.
"They kept talking about how hot you were and I got," Kai said but stopped what they were saying. I sat up and looked at Kai. Were they going to say they were jealous?
"You got what?" I said.
"Nothing," Kai froze, "forget I said something."
"Kai," I said softly as I moved closer to them. They sat up and looked at me.
"I was going to say that I got jealous," Kai said nervously, "it's stupid you should go to bed."
"Okay," I said softly and got up.
"I didn't mean to make you mad," Kai said.
"I'm not mad," I said.
"Oh," Kai said.
"Why were you jealous?" I said. Kai fell silent and I felt bad for saying anything.
"I don't want you to think I'm some freak," Kai admitted after a few minutes.
"I don't think that, why would you say that?" I asked.
"Because I really like you, and we live together," Kai said, and I could see a tear escape their eye. I froze. They liked me. I couldn't believe it. I liked them too.
"Sorry I should have just kept my mouth shut," Kai said.
"No Kai," I said, "I like you too."
"You do?" Kai said.
"Yeah," I nodded. I got up and wrapped my arms around them. They started crying and I rubbed their back.
"I don't want to ruin everything," Kai said.
"You won't," I said softly, "I promise."
"Promise?" Kai said. I nodded. I leaned in and kissed them passionately. I felt sparks go through my body. It was the best kiss I've ever had. Kai pulled me close to them and I smiled.
