Chapter Fifteen

“Ali sweetie you got to get up for school.” Emma whispered

“Huh?”

“School sweetie do you want to stay home instead?”

“No, no I’m ok I wanna be on time today.” I said drowsily

“Did you sleep alright last night?”

“Not really I was up almost all night, but I’m alright.” I said more alert now. I sat up and twisting to the side so my leg dangled and pushed myself up and crutched myself over to the bathroom.

When I was done getting ready I scooted down the stairs on my butt and Luke was waiting at the bottom to take me to the car.

“Good morning sleeping beauty” Luke teased

“Good morning!” I chirped back

“Someone’s in a good mood today?”

“Sort of I just want to get to school and have a good day where nothing goes wrong.”

We got to the school and before Luke could get out I grabbed his arm.

“Luke?”

“Yeah Ali?”

“Last night…” I started but trailed off.

“Yeah?”

“Robb seemed pretty pissed, what did you do wrong?”

“Oh.. nothing you didn’t see anything did you?”

“Uhm….. Well I kind of um…”

“Ali listen to me you can’t say anything!”

“Luke he punched you!”

“So? It’s fine.. Just forget it.”

“Luke wait..” I said pulling him back into the Jeep.

“What?”

“You know you can trust me? I won’t say anything unless you want me to but you have to answer one question.”

“And that question would be?” he said staring out the window

“Does your… um... Dad punch you a lot?”

He took a deep breathe “Everyday…. But only when he is drunk. Its ok I grew up that way.”

“Luke, that’s not okay. He could go to jail for that.”

“I know but, who is gonna believe a seventeen year old kid?”

“I believe you.” Turning him to look straight into my eyes.

“Ali, We really need to get into school.”

“I know but I need you to know one thing.”

He said nothing.

“I will always be here to help you, if he comes at you, you can stay in my room for the night. I just don’t want to see you getting hurt; I can’t lose someone else I care about.” Tears welled up in my eyes.

Turning to look at me he said “Ali, you will never loose me no matter what.” He gave a small smile before getting out.
