The next day it was quiet in the house. Emma and Ryan slept for most of the day and we were all just emotionally exhausted.
Luke came down the stairs with a smile on his face. “Ali go get dressed.”
“Why?!” I groaned spreading myself all over the couch.
“We are going out! You’re my girlfriend and we haven’t been on a real date yet. I know these past few days have been rough. So let’s go have fun!”
I smiled. Always so optimistic. “Okay okay! I’ll be right there.”
I looked in the mirror and bit my lip. I wore a blue sundress and sandals. This will have to do. I smiled and walked down the stairs.
“Hello beautiful.” Luke said smiling at me.
“Hello handsome.” I smiled back.
We got in the car and he turned on the radio. Some song I didn’t know was playing. Luke began to sing along. I was cracking up. He continued to dance and sing while still drive.
“Luke!” You’re going to get us killed! I laughed when he just turned the music up.
We arrived at a little café. We walked in and sat at a small table near the windows. Sun was shining and I felt happy.
The waiter came over and took our orders. We each got a coffee and a piece of chocolate cake to share.
“Ali, thank you.”
“For what?” I asked taking a sip of my coffee.
“For helping me tell mom. For getting Robb out of my life. For always being there for me. For making me smile and laugh.”
“You’re welcome, but I’m really the one who should be thanking you.” I grabbed his hand . “I don’t know where I would be without you.”
He flashed me a smile and kissed my hand. “So what do you want to do now? Anything you want.”
“hmmmm” I thought. “Can we just go to the park?” I asked.
“Abso-fricking-lutely.” He said.
The park was right next to the café so we just walked. When we got there I darted for the swings as fast as I could with my leg. “Damn.” I said sitting down. “I can’t even push myself!”
“And that’s what I’m for.” Luke said coming behind me and pushing me.
“Oh Luke you’re so STRONG.” I said sarcastically.
“Oh I know. Want to feel my muscles?” He asked with a wink.
After a while Luke sat on the swing next to me and I moved into his lap. We stared out into the sunset and just relaxed. It was so nice to have a break from all this madness.
“Merry early Christmas.” Luke said.
“Oh yeah! I almost forgot. It’s so hot here I’m getting my seasons messed up!”
He laughed. “Thanks for today Luke. It was great.”
Instead of answering his kissed me. I kissed him back and smiled against his lips.
The rest of the night passed quickly, by the time me and Luke got back it was dark. We went to bed in hopes for Christmas the next day.
