SALLY'S FIRST FEW MONTHS AT HAWKINS, INDIANA HAD BEEN PRETTY MEDIOCRE, albeit if you didn't count the continuous arguments she'd gotten into with the infamous Eddie Munson, or the wild parties she'd gone too with her new brother figure Steve Harrington.
It definitely contrasted from sunny California, the Mediterranean climate and humidity she once loved now only being extreme weather changes all year round. But begrudgingly, she adjusted, not just for her family, but for herself. Being miserable for however long she thought she'd stay there didn't sound like the best plan.
"If you're not in the car in five seconds Sally you can walk!" Billy shouted from the drivers seat, his cigarette smoke wafting into a silent Max who sat in the back seat, a grimace on her face.
"I'm coming! Chill the fuck out" Sally rolled her eyes, walking out of their new home. 4819 Cherry Lane wouldn't have been her first pick of houses if she could've chosen, but it was satisfactory nevertheless. At least she had the privacy of her own room, even if she couldn't hear her own thoughts half the time when Billy turned his record player up obnoxiously.
Before she could even pull her seatbelt on, Billy put his foot down on the gas, causing Sally and Max's heads to jolt back a little. She really wished she had her own car.
Parking up at Hawkins High, the two sisters jumped out and waved each other goodbye, ignoring Billy as per usual. She would never understand what his problem truly was with them, it's not like it was their fault they moved to Hawkins.
Brushing off the sour demeanour Billy gave her, she walked to Steve's locker to find him with Nancy Wheeler looking all loved up.
"Mornin' Sal" The couple nodded towards her in greeting. Nancy Wheeler wasn't Sally's friend, more an acquaintance, she had nothing against her, they had just never fully talked to one another. Hearing the bell for first period Nancy waved a quick goodbye and headed off too her class.
Steve turned too Sally and wiggled his eyebrows, causing Sally to frown at him. "What? What are you doing? Are you having a fit or something?" She asked, trying to work out what was going on with him.
He pulled out an orange flier from his back pocket and wiggled it in-front of her face. "Tina's throwing a Halloween party"
She grabbed it out of his hand and scanned it, quickly deciding it was worth going. "Yeah sure, what you going as, a bottle of Farrah Fawcett spray?" She chuckled, starting to walk to the same lesson as him.
"I swear to god Sal, I will strangle you if you continue to use that against me" Steve's empty threat made her laugh more. She'd been hanging out at his house with Robin and found about five canisters of it in his bathroom, and obviously the two girls had found it hilarious.
Walking into their first period she sat down second to last row, not happy to have Math first lesson on a Monday morning. Throughout most of it she had her head down on the table, only arising once in a while to write some notes down.
She lifted her head one other time to scold Eddie Munson who sat behind her, who had been relentlessly tapping his pen on his desk to the beat of a Black Sabbath song.
"Can you stop?" She went to grab the pen out of his hand but he swiftly pulled it away before she could.
"No" He matter of factly said, now continuing louder and tapping his foot too.
She groaned and turned back around, giving up seeing as there was only ten minutes left of the lesson. She was usually quite good at ignoring his childish antics, but she wasn't a morning person, especially on Mondays.

Sally sat under the bleachers outside with Robin and Steve, eating lunch and having a quick cigarette before they got caught. Robin despised smoking, always having something to say to Sally when she had one, but the older girl just shrugged it off and moved it away when she tried to snatch it off her.
"Why don't you want to come? It'll be fun, trust me" Steve said, trying to convince a stubborn Robin to go to the Halloween party on Saturday.
"It's just not my thing, I'm fine at home watching scary movies, trust me" Robin nodded sure of herself, having another bite of her sandwich.
It sucked for the older two that Robin was in the grade below them, meaning she wasn't very known to theirs and didn't get invited to things like this. But the two of them knew she wasn't into hanging around a bunch of random drunk people the whole night, being conscious of how she was acting in-front of them.
The group suddenly heard incoherent shouting and some kind of wail from the car park around the corner. Sally rolled her eyes, knowing exactly who it was, especially with those theatrics.
"Bigmouth strikes again" She scoffed, the others grinning as they caught a sight of Eddie Munson making a fool of himself in the car park.
"You'd think he was a middle schooler..." Robin mumbled.
"Or bad shit crazy" Steve chimed in.
The day sped up after lunchtime, Sally caught up with Max who was riding on her skateboard up to Billy's car.
"Hey how was school?" She asked, ruffling her hair, earning a glare.
"Alright I guess" She responded, the two of them nodding at Billy in recognition and getting into his car.
Trying to zone out the blasting music, she lit up a cigarette and wound the window down to her right. She'd been surprised that Billy had never said anything about her smoking, she'd just decided that he wasn't that much of a hypocrite, seeing as they were the same age and he had at least a packet a day. Roaming for her flier that she'd picked up from Tina after leaving last period, she started brainstorming ideas for an outfit whilst taking drags of her cigarette.
Overall, appearance wasn't the most dire thing for her, but getting dressed up always had been fun. Her mother enjoyed braiding her hair when she was younger, now not doing it as Sally usually just kept it down or in a low bun.
"You going to that?" Billy interrupted her thoughts, looking at the invite.
"Yeah"
He grabbed it out of her hand and scanned it over, pursing his lips in thought. She was already thinking of different ways to tell him to fuck off when he eventually says he doesn't want her to go, acting like he was a concerned brother.
"Sounds fun, I'll drive us up" He shrugged, throwing it back to her lap and taking a sharp left.
"Um, no it's okay, Steve's said he'd drive" She frowned, turning back to Max to give her a 'what the fuck?' look.
"No, I'll do it, he's idiot anyway"
She tutted in response, deciding it would be better to just say yes to keep the peace. Also knowing deep down his father wouldn't be very happy if Billy didn't take care of her, obviously he didn't do this out of the kindness of his own heart.
She half debated on going now.
