SALLY QUICKLY REALISED HER FIRST PERIOD WAS CHEMISTRY. Her heart pounded in her chest as she sat down next to Eddie grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
"Morning" He smirked, placing a palm too his cheek and leaning in her direction with a wink.
She swallowed hard, telling herself to act indifferent. "Hey" She showed him a tight lipped smile, trying not to linger her gaze on him.
The lesson started to take place, light mumbles of conversation going between the pair as they started a practical. Not the most exciting thing to do first thing in the morning, but they didn't have a choice.
"Can you stir that for me" Sally asked him, referring to the acid on the table that she'd poured. She didn't particularly know what she was doing, but read off the instructions sheet anyway.
"Sure sweetheart" He nodded, causing Sally too avoid his eyes.
She knew they had to talk about what had happened, but once again, she didn't want to deal with the confrontation of it. Rejection would make her crumble, especially when she'd just come to terms with the fact that she had feelings for him. It had truly surprised her, it had came out of nowhere. But she'd gotten to know the real him, and that's what started it all.
There wouldn't have even been a flicker of interest if her English teacher hadn't set up them god damn tutoring sessions.
However, she wasn't blinded by his stupidity, especially when he started to pour one of the mixtures into the bottle, completely wrong. "Eddie stop!" Her panic stricken voice called out to him.
"What?" He frowned at her rolling her eyes.
"It's the wrong one, you're supposed-" Her words were cut off as the mixture started to bubble, making an ominous sizzling sound. Before she could back away, it started to rise, and all of a sudden exploded into her direction.
She audibly gasped as blue hued foam spurted onto her white shirt, missing the wide eyed boy next to her.
"Oh shit" Eddie pursed his lips, looking down at her stained shirt and trying to hold his laughter in.
"You are such an idiot Munson" She grumbled, looking down at one of her favourite shirts, that was now ruined.
Giggles and snickers cascaded around the room from their peers, having seen the explosion. Sally rolled her eyes and was excused by their teacher so she could clean herself up.
When she'd made it too the bathroom, she began too dab her top with water, which of course didn't help.
She damned herself for not bringing a sweater that day, the weather was becoming warmer so she hadn't bothered. But of course on the specific day she hadn't, it had gotten ruined and now she had too walk around with an obvious stain.
She had picked up her belongings before she had left, so had a perfect excuse too skip the lesson now. She shook her head, giving up on scrubbing.
Now with twenty minutes free, she walked out the front doors and up to the parking lot, lighting a cigarette whilst sitting on Billy's car bonnet. He'd let her drive it to school that morning, she'd gotten quite good at driving now, even with the complaints from her brother for driving 'too slow' and parking a bit wonky. Too slow was driving at the speed limit of course.
Like Billy, she'd gotten a job for the summer, Scoops Ahoy. Robin and Steve were hopefully getting the same job too, so it would be more bearable. School didn't seem so dire now, seeing as she wasn't going to college. So skipping core lessons to smoke didn't bother her much.
It was quite peaceful, nobody was around, all stuck in there lessons. Birds trotted around, not fearful anymore from the ruckus.
This was until they became alarmed from the doors banging open, in unison they flew off in a pack, making the once grinning boy petrified.
