FLEETWOOD MAC PLAYED THROUGH SALLY'S WALKMAN THE NEXT DAY. She'd awoken in the afternoon, a raging headache from the inevitable hangover from her own decisions.
She hadn't moved, she felt too glum for anything. Rolling over under her blanket and rewinding the soothing song, she became lost in her thoughts, aware that she'd have to face Tommy at school that Monday.
She heard her door open and then the bed sink as someone sat down beside her, she immediately knew who it was as her headphones were pulled off her head.
She turned around to see Billy looking down at her and holding a sandwich, he'd noticed she hadn't eaten anything.
"You need to eat" He placed the plate in her hands as she sat up, huffing a little.
"I'm not hungry" She mumbled, moving it too her nightstand as she'd lost her appetite.
He moved up the bed a little and watched her for a moment, trying to work out what was going on with her. "You need to tell me what happened with Tommy"
She put on a smile too try and fool him, which didn't work at all. "Nothing"
"Sally, tell me" He asked sternly with concern laced in his tone still.
"Why do you care?" She replied, not believing his new loving brother act.
"Because I'm your brother for fuck sake!" He raised his voice, Sally looking down a little overwhelmed, not realising that this was the first time he'd ever referred too himself as family.
She lifted her head back up after making her decision. "You have to promise me that you won't do anything rash, I just want to forget about it"
He frowned a little, but let it go as he nodded. "I promise"
She took in a shaky breath, not knowing if she was overacting, she hadn't been in a situation like that before. It was mortifying and humiliating. "Tommy just didn't take no as an answer- he didn't do anything though" She quickly reassured as his face hardened. "He just kept trying too kiss me, and I was drunk and didn't know what to do, so I got out of the car and he just drove off"
"I'm gonna fucking kill-"
"No you're not okay? You promised" Recalling the negative memory had made her glum once again, and Billy struggled too watch it.
After having an internal fight with his head from his heart, he eventually gave in and nodded. "Okay, but you're coming with me to school from now on, and no boy is ever going to even look at you without consent ever again" He slightly exaggerated, cheering her up a little with a smile.
"Thanks" She sniffled a little through her chuckles.
It was hard for her to believe Billy would actually listen to her, she'd expected hysterics from him, and it could still happen. But it was easier too believe him as his eyes seemed truthful and sympathetic, a contrast from the soulless ones she'd see normally.
He stood up too leave, but before he opened the door he turned around. "Hey, uh, I'm sorry about everything y'know"
It surprised her, she'd never heard him ever apologise in the years she'd known him. But he was acting like he'd started every fight, and he was the problem for it all, which wasn't true in the slightest. "Yeah, I'm sorry too"
He left after their rekindling, and the day seemed brighter after it. She just hoped he'd keep it up.
***
Walking through the schools parking lot that Monday morning, she kept her head high, wishing Tommy wouldn't bring anything up.
She found Steve and Robin sat on a bench near the entrance, glaring at Tommy on the opposite one with his friends. She'd told them on the telephone, and they were definitely mad too. Billy was with Tommys group, seeing as he was friends with most of that group, but it was clear he was giving him the cold shoulder. At least that was all it was.
