Warning: Spoilers for the movie!
Go home, don't tell
Anyone what you are
You're sacred and they're starved
...
They're gonna tell you what you wanna hear
Then they're gonna disappear
Gonna claim you like a souvenir
Just to sell you in a year
You better keep your head down-down
"So the person you went to for help, told exactly where I am, is the person trying to kill me?" America's nerves were shot at this point, the only emotion found was sarcastic realism because at this point she knew she wasn't going to catch a damn break. Stephen's defeated nod and sigh were enough for the entirety of Kamar-Taj. Everyone could see the clear worry in Wong's demeanor, almost a hint of fear.
"The Scarlet Witch is a being of unfathomable power. She took an entire town hostage."
"If she gets America's powers she can enslave the entire multiverse." Stephen finished Wong's thought as the rest of the masters in the room looked at one another but my eyes never left Stephen's. We were both worried for the fate of this child who has suddenly become so important to the both of us.
"But we're not going to let that happen. No matter what." I hated "no matter what" scenarios. I've been through too many of them to enjoy this protective feeling. There was nothing good that came out of them. The worst "no matter what" was suppose to result in my demise but instead resulted in my best friend's death. And he didn't deserve it. I kept that secret and I hoped I could keep it that way. That incessant need to have everyone look at me like the hero I am rather than the villain I've seen myself, was more important that I'd admit to myself.
America locked her eyes with me and I gave her a reassuring nod. Even though I wasn't entirely confident one of us wouldn't die. "Halt the sessions, prep the trainees for battle. Kamar-Taj must now become a fortress." Wong's words made the temple shake as everyone ran to their assigned stations. I went to follow Stephen out but he stopped me.
"Stephen, this isn't time for games. Come on let's go."
"You are not going out here." The confused look on my face became tainted with worry. "You need to stay with America."
"No way Stephen, we fight together."
His hands found my face and part of me wanted to zap him to remind him that I'm not a benchwarmer but I knew once his mind was set there really was no changing it. "Jodie, America needs you right now. Wanda doesn't know you're here and I want to keep it that way. You're kind of my secret weapon." I narrowed my eyes with a smirk at his bout of flattery before setting into his grasp, kissing his shaky palms.
"I love you so much but if you die before we get to have that conversation about Christine, I will kill you." Teary eyes and soft smiles sat on both of our faces.
"I love you too." Our lips met in a kiss neither of us wanted to end. Our lips moldering as the tears finally found their escape down our cheeks, mixing with one another. Emotions were high not only for the sake of this child who's seemingly ours now but the undeniable protection we needed to have over one another. It felt impossible for me to let him out of my grasp now knowing what was going to happen to him. Wanda was on a vengeful path and my stomach was churning at the thought of her ripping him apart with the single flick of her finger.
"I really wish the lunch box argument worked." He laughed and I smiled bright. God, that laugh was perfect. He was perfect. How am I suppose to willingly let him slip through my fingers right now into what could be his death? Nothing about this felt right except being in his grasp with America just a few feet behind us. "Be safe please." His nod wasn't convincing but I knew he would do his best. Stephen ran out after slamming the door. It was odd how willingly I let those tears collide with his in front of an audience of ancient mystic art masters but this battle was more personal than ever. I felt there I was nothing left for me to have control over except the safety of America and in that I wasn't too optimistic. Wanda was more powerful than anyones ever seen her. She enslaved an entire town just to make a fake husband and two kids. I can't even begin to muster an imagination for what she'll do if something happens to her multiversal sons.
