Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
And every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
There I stood in an all white dress in front of the mirror. It wasn't the dress but hell did it make me feel like it was. A rehearsal dinner. That's all this was. So why was I totally freaked the fuck out by it? We're just eating, chatting, practicing our walks down the aisle, and taking our final night as Stephen Strange and Jodie Reynolds. Holy shit. "Is this okay?" I turned around from my mirror thoughts to see America standing in a white button down blouse with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. A blue spaghetti dress over top of it, ending just above her knee. Those same converse she jumped up and down in the store about just a few weeks ago. Blue jeans pattern but she took the liberty in drawing on them to make them more her.
"Absolutely stunning." I took a few steps closer to her, twisting my fingers into the curls in her hair and noticing the hint of blue shadow hiding on her eyelid. "What about me? Should I do this dress or the jumpsuit?"
"You look beautiful but I'd have to see the jumpsuit." Knowing she'd say that, I quickly snapped and revealed the jumpsuit. It was all white with delicate dainty sleeves that hung off of my shoulders, sweetheart neckline, and a silver belt that went across my waist. "Definitely the jumpsuit." She beamed at me and for the first time since having her in our lives I looked down at her like a mother should. Whenever I needed to scold her, which was literally one time for coming home late after going out with some friends, we couldn't help but laugh at our identical height. This advantage was kind of nice. "It's weird looking up at you."
"It's weird looking down at you."
"It's nice just looking at you." My eyes shifted behind America to see Stephen in a navy blue blazer, white button down, and navy trousers. His hair was styled the exact way I loved it, all natural. He looked as perfect as a daydream and it just reminded me of how lucky I am. "You both look amazing. I'm the luckiest guy in the world to be marrying the most beautiful woman and have the most beautiful adopted daughter." Stephen was still nervous about calling America his daughter without saying adopted. Neither of us wanted to replace her moms who we both know would someday reunite with her but there was that part of us that never wanted to let her go. We just didn't want to feel like we were forcing her into forgetting she has moms somewhere in the cosmos of the multiverse.
"As sweet as this moment is, I'm starving. And I want to get to the pizza before Thor does."
"Good point." I added before Stephen took my hand and wrapped his arm around America's shoulders. My fingers circled so I could open the portal to our destination for the evening. The cathedral where we'd say our "I do's" officially was the first stop but afterwards it was the reception hall. Where we'd meet everyone after. Why was my stomach turning at such a happy occasion?
Our strides were incredibly uneven just for one step. Stephen's long legs took larger distance than mine and America's although this time mine were a bit wider because of the heel advantage I had given myself. I gasped seeing how gorgeous the cathedral was. Flowers draped along each row of benches, some small ribbons that lined the rows that were reserved for family and immediate friends. Though our immediate friends were our family. "Jodie." The name alarmed me and made me jump out of my admirable thoughts to find Happy in front of me.
"Happy?"
"You haven't seen this yet so I want you to close your eyes."
"Seen what?" Before I could even get an answer America threw a bandana over my eyes. I felt three hands dragging me somewhere in this hall but I hadn't the slightest clue where. It felt like a long walk in the darkness but I knew it wasn't too far by instinct. Just taking extra steps to put me in the right spot. The blindfold was ripped off of me and I was staring directly at Happy. "You know, I could've just closed my eyes. You didn't need to make my kid blindfold me." Quickly I adjusted my hair that was now frizzy. I turned around and felt my heart stop beating. Tony was sat before me, his figure, sat in holographic form. "Oh my god."
"How's it going, Gandalf?" No way this is real. No. Fucking. Way. "I know I know. I'm dead. Or at least I have to be in order for you to see this." He recorded a message for me. "You might be a bit pissed at this because I told Pep and Happy to save this for your very special wedding day, which god knows when that'll be since Mr. Fortune likes to take his time. But I figured I'd say congratulations and that no matter how long it's been since I've died, I want you to know that I'm always here somehow. We always talked about how I'd be the one to walk you down the aisle and so for the lovely occasion of your wedding I had looked dumber than ever and filmed myself walking about a hundred times to ensure you have the perfect strut." The tears finally broke loose behind my damned eyes.
