Love Makes You Do Crazy Things

Warning: Spoilers for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! If you haven't seen it yet come back after June 22nd when it comes out on Disney+ or to DVD most likely a couple weeks after. Also sorry for the bit of delay in updating, this past week and past few days have been crazy but here's a chapter now! Bit of a long one so here we go! 

Surrounded and up against a wall

I needed to find Stephen. I kicked off my heels and ran for the terrace by the bar after seeing other people rushing towards it. I found Stephen staring down the block with his martini still in hand. Stephen never lets a drink go unfinished. "Any chance we get to enjoy any of the parties or events we're invited to?" I asked seeing more people flooding in one direction as I saw a girl run into a bus.

"Probably not." In what wasn't meant to be but totally was sexier than I ever imagined, Stephen set the empty martini glass on the tray, unbuttoned his blazer, and spun the cloak out. He gripped my waist and flung us over the balcony where cloak gripped us and Stephen changed both of our attires with a stretch of his hands. We landed on the ground but my head was still floating in the air, trying to replay that incredibly bone-chilling event in my head just one more time before I risked my life against...an invisible tyrant? There was a lot of stuff happening in my head right now and I wasn't able to wrap my head around it completely.

When I was finally settled, my focus leaned to Stephen pulling the creatures visual form to view. A large octopus. I thought I had seen even octopuses when encountering the mechanical one just a while back but nope, life decided I needed to experience a real life killer octopus. Thank you life. I used my magic to open the bus and was horrified to see a young girl hanging on for dear life on the inside of it. "Shit." Stephen grunted and threw cloak in the direction of the falling girl to bring her towards us while he trapped the octopuses tentacles in the now closed bus.

Cloak dropped the girl beside me, my eyes widened. "America." Whether it came out as a question or as a completely confused statement was beyond my mental ability in this moment but she was here. She was real. Same eyes, bangs, skin tone, even the same damn jacket, same girl. Everything I had been questioning and beginning to believe was unfolding before me changing my perspective and the things I once thought I knew. Answers were in order when this chaos died down but who knows when that would be.

My view shifted to see a bus hurting towards us. Quickly I grabbed the young girl in my arms and we stood directly behind Stephen as he sliced it in half. His eyes met mine in the same confusion but his was less hurt or emotional. "Do I know you?"

"Stephen!" He was blasted by the octopuses's tentacle into a coffee shop across the street from us. There wasn't any time for me to check on him, I needed to save this girl. A portal opened behind the octopus with Wong walking through it like the hero he is. With a nod from the sorcerer supreme I grabbed America and opened my own portal to the top of a building ledge to hopefully get here far enough anyway. Octopuses's can't climb buildings can they? I locked my hand in hers as we ran towards the portal and I quickly closed it. Cutting off a tip of the tentacle. "You're America." All she did was nod. I could tell she was nervous and scared which, rightfully so, but I wondered if she knew who I was. "Do you know who I am? I saw you in a dream."

"I do, you're Jodie. That, that wasn't a dream. It really happened just in a different universe."

"More multiverse shit, got it." It brought relief over me to see her laugh for the first time since I saw her face that wretched night. "I just want you to know that I know other me was very protective over you and for other me's sake, I will continue that." America smiled at me. Something tells me I've seen this smile before. Not me exactly but a version of me has. My insides starting bubbling happily at the sight like she was my own. In one universe she was my own.
