Walking through a familiar pavement, meeting the few meters of cobblestone right in front of their porch, Taehyun's body systematically did its routine as he opened the door of their house greeting his mom and dad when his eyes took a glimpse of his parents in the living room.
His day was expectedly welcomed by the same old 'where are your grades?' after the last day of his school right before the summer break, and he is also presumed to show it to them. Taehyun took out his grade card all together with his latest exam results, handed it over and made his way to his room to change his clothes before eating lunch.
After changing to his comfortable t-shirt and shorts, he immediately went downstairs to eat and have that usual conversation.
"You did well Taehyun! I was right to cook your favorite food today. Now chow down dear, let's talk about your day in school", his mom enthusiastically praised him.
Before he opened his mouth to start a light conversation about his old-boring day, his eyes diverted to his dad as he tried to grasp any reaction from the old man, wishing he'll praise him or maybe recognize him just a bit after getting a perfect exam scores and for maintaining his top position in their class ranking and in their overall.
Yet, waiting was in vain and the old man remained silent so he just gave up again for today. Not enough huh, he guessed. Rather than being all disappointed and sulky from his dad's fixed reaction, he averted his sight to his mom and wore a huge grin on his face.
"Good as usual. Nothing special to me but my friends do have some."
"Oh, did Kai rise to the top 5 overall?" His mom asked.
Beomgyu is a bit of a badshot to his parents but talking about the older today would be the best. A little flex would work out from building trust as he proves that Beomgyu could be someone they could trust to be Taehyun's friend and that would also mean they can finally be given the certainty about Taehyun's decisions so he shook his head and delighted,
"It's Beomgyu-hyung. He's part of the class rank now and he almost entered the rank 20 overall." With a cheery tone, his dad's reaction contradicts him with a scowl while the woman had her eyes widened from the news.
"Re- really?" the woman doubtfully quired, her eyes shifting from her son to her frowning husband.
Taehyun excessively nods his head and continues, sticking up on his truthful narrative.
"It was a hard month for him. Hyung tagged along with us to study, and sometimes he was the one who initiated our group studies. It actually helped me too, teaching hyung and Hyuka made me memorize things easier. He was really diligent too. And smart. And goal oriented. I knew he had what it takes."
As he rambled continuously, the fact that he was genuinely proud of Beomgyu slipped out and now he couldn't remove the glowing beam on his face. Before his mom could talk, Taehyun continued to show Beomgyu off.
"And you know mom, he honestly had a hard time learning but he always asks us when he doesn't get a part. Can you believe it? Choi Beomgyu just showed some dedication to his studies! I felt somewhat surprised too." Leaving out Beomgyu's whining and complaints, Taehyun made sure that the only thing that would come out of his mouth is pure praise.
"Isn't that good to hear? Your good influence is really pretty strong. I'll be waiting for the day where you two can help each oth–" His mom beamed but a sudden interruption ruined the whole mood.
"Don't get too chummy with that rascal. I'm sure that boy can't maintain what he started. He'll go back to his old habits. And if you let him influence you, you are going down, Taehyun. Remember that."
