"Happy birthday," I say while jumping on Belly who was still sleeping causing her to wake up "Thank you," She says in a weak voice while sitting up and rubbing her eyes

"You're 16 today, this is big," I say looking at her "It's not that big," She says letting out a light laugh

"Wait, how did your date go?" She asks while grabbing my hands "uh, not good, but it's your day we don't need to talk about me," I say getting up and laughing "Get dressed," I say walking toward her dresser and start looking through her clothes. I find the perfect floral romper and throw it at her

"Are you sure this is gonna look good?" She asks after looking at it and then looking at me "Yes, trust me." I say putting my hands on my hips

"Now, I'll be downstairs," I say walking toward her door and leaving. I walk into my room to grab Belly's gift because she usually opens them after she eats. I walk out of my room and make my way down the stairs, I hear everyone in the kitchen talking as I make my way closer, the first person I saw was Conrad, he was sitting down eating some cereal not looking at anyone or speaking.

"Goodmorning, Tate." Susannah says as she watches me make my way toward Jeremiah "Good morning," I say back to her with a smile "Good morning, T." Jeremiah says as I stand next to him "Good morning," I say with a smile

"Want anything to eat?" He asks "Uh, no, I'm good." I say looking down at my hands "Morning, everyone," I hear Belly says a few moments later, a few Happy birthdays and Hey were thrown out

"there's the birthday girl, looking like a vision in floral," Susannah says while hugging Belly "Well, we can thank that to Tate," Belly says while laughing Jeremiah walks away from me over toward Belly "Happy sweet 16, Bells," He says while giving her a hug

"Now Belly Button's getting old, finally." Steven says while looking at her and eating a piece of bacon "Happy birthday, Belly," Conrad says while looking up at her with a slight smile on his face

"Thanks, everyone," Belly says while smiling "Happy birthday, sweetheart," Laurel says while walking away from the stove and over toward her daughter "Thank, mom," Belly says while hugging her

"Your Mickey Mouse pancakes are ready," Laurel says with a smile on her face "Actually, I'm not really, uh, hungry," Belly says causing Laurel's face to drop "Oh." Is all Laurel says

"Shall we open gifts?" Susannah says trying to lighten the mood "Oh, you're gonna love mine," Jeremiah says while holding up a small box "Ours," Conrad chimes in "Sorry. Ours," Jeremiah says while rolling his eyes

We all make our way out to the living room, Laurel, Steven, and Susannah sit on the couch, while Jeremiah and I sit on the floor in front of Conrad who was sitting on the chair and we were all facing Belly who was sitting on the love seat. "Me first," Laurel says while handing Belly her gift

Belly pulls off the wrapping paper to reveal a book "It's a first edition. I got it from a rare book dealer," Laurel says with a smile on her face while Belly tries to hide her disappointment "Thanks, mom." She says with a light smile on her face

"turn to the bookmarked page," Laurel says before leaning into Susannah "It's your favorite poem," Laurel whispers "Oh, yeah. I remember Susannah teaching us to recite this," Belly says as she looks at the page

"For whatever we lose," Belly starts to say "Like a you or a me," Jeremiah says joining her "It's always ourselves we find in the sea," Everyone finishes joining in. "Thank you, I love it." Belly says with a wide smile on her face "You're welcome,"

"Okay, open mine now, Belly," Susannah says while handing her a box covered in white wrapping paper. Belly peals the paper away to reveal a black box "Oh, wow." Belly says looking at what was in the box "They're gorgeous. Thank you, Susannah," Belly says looking up at her as Susannah stands up and takes the pearls out of the box to put on her

"My mom gave me these pearls for my sweet 16," Susannah says as she puts them on Belly's neck and then walks back to her seat "They look great on you, sweetheart," Laurel says while smiling

"Oh, we're next," Jeremiah says while handing Belly the box and she opens it to reveal a key charm "It's a good-luck charm to help you pass your driving test," Jeremiah says as Belly puts it onto her bracelet "Perfect. Thank you," Belly says while holding up her arm and looking at it

"Think fast, Belly," Steven says while he throws her gift at her, Laurel lets out a sigh of disappointment and Belly begins to peel away the wrapping paper "Wow, Steven, I can't believe you actually spent money on me," Belly says as she holds the hoodie with Princeton wrote across the top "Relax. I just didn't want you stealing mine next year when I get in," He says with a smile

"Oh, Me next," I say handing Belly my gift. She pulls away the purple wrapping paper to reveal a black box with a white ribbon around it, she undoes the ribbon and opens the box "Tate, oh my." She says with a smile on her face and taking out the bracelet that has butterflies wrapping around it "I love it," She says slipping it onto her wrist

Last year, Belly glowed up, she started doing her hair, she started wearing contacts and she was changing so fast and in that period she started getting a lot more attention from guys and girls and at first, she thought that was good and she felt better about herself but one day, she was over at our house and she was so upset because she realized that people only now cared about her. After all, she was getting 'prettier' and I just felt so bad.

There was this poem I heard and saw online a couple of months ago and I thought it was perfect for her to see 'We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but we rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty,'. I read it to her and although she didn't feel admittedly better she started reciting it to herself every day as a reminder and every since butterflies have just become our things so I thought it was a perfect gift to get her

"Taylor also wants me to say that it was from her as well," I say laughing causing Belly to also laugh "Okay, Belly are you ready for your driving lesson," Jeremiah says while standing up and pulling her up with him

Sorry, it took me so long to update, I stayed up yesterday until 7 am watching v2 of stranger things, and then I spent the rest of the day crying and sleeping. I promise there will be more scenes of Conrad and Tate but this is just a little chapter for Belly and Tate.
