Kai looked around him in amazement his eyes glinting with a mysterious brightness that I was only beginning to understand. He had no clue that a few minutes ago I had nearly kissed and that the only thing that had stopped me from doing so was a whisper on the wind that sounded a lot like Dale's voice. I felt sodden with guilt and the worst thing was I couldn't find it in me to regret my actions, I wanted to kiss him and part of me wish I had done it anyway.
"Your so close now" I heard him whisper but I took no note of his observation, I had to keep my distance. It was like within a moment my entire world had been turned upside down, suddenly I wanted nothing more than to be held by him, to stare into the depths of his fiery eyes to... I stopped myself closing my eyes and trying to calm myself down.
I jumped when I felt his arm fall on my shoulder, a wave of something feral flew over me but I resisted it opening my eyes and looking up at him. There was a lopsided smile on his face, his eyes still taking in the sight around him. I stared at him for a long time, I had never seen that smile before, it made him look boyish.
He noticed me staring and met my eyes, I wanted to look away but I didn't I just stared mesmerised by the colours that flared in his eyes. I felt his hand fall from my shoulder, pinning themselves to his side. He blinked rapidly his smile fading as he looked away from me . I cocked my head to the side unable to understand why he turned away, was that guilt I has seen in his eyes or was it restraint?
"I saw Pietro" I stated
Just like I had planned his head whipped and he was looking at me again, I smiled as his eyes searched mine. I reached out my hand.
"I can show you"
He stared at it but made no further movements
"What did he say?" he asked
I dropped my hand quickly, glad that Kai hadn't completely lost himself because I was slowly losing who I thought I was. I shook my head, what was coming over me?
"He said the witch would want my heart" I looked to the ground "But I don't understand, Pietro gave me the last two pieces of the portrait, there is no reason to go to the witch"
Kai looked as confused as I was but at the same time some kind of realisation seemed to dawn on his face, whatever the epiphany was he hid but whatever it was seemed to have put something in perspective for him.
"Well there must be if he told you what the deal would be, did you not ask?"
"I wanted to but he disappeared" I paused "He said he was a figment of my imagination, yet he felt so real"
Kai smiled sadly
"Well his personality was always larger than life"
I chuckled
"His laughter was still as loud as it was"
This time Kai chuckled, again I found myself studying him watching his face completely transfixed by the changes it underwent as he laughed. Again our eyes connected but this time I had the sense to look to the ground.
"You should send that message to Dale and the others" I said quietly
Kai nodded, quickly removing his shredded top he looked down at his trousers and seeing how damaged they were realised he might as well shift. I observed as his bones broke and his body stretched ripping and filling the air with the smell of blood as his bones broke through them like a blade through paper. Although it looked painful, there was no pain on Kai's face he looked tranquil. Avaro stretched his bones cracking as everything fell into place, he looked at me his nose raised in my direction as he sniffed. His head fell to the side as he observed me, before he turned up to the sky which was slowly darkening and let out a blood curdling howl. His eyes then began to roll back until only the whites of them could be seen, his giant body lay down twitching occasionally as he communicated to his brother.
