My heart seemed to slow down as I followed my nose, the smell of blood once again overwhelming me. In those precious minutes all I could hear was the roaring of my heart and my own shallow breathing, which seemed to reflect my own fear.

My mind kept flashing back to Cara, she had not remembered the events of that night yet she had been so certain and specific that it was the red wolf that was here. What if it howled once more and Cara found herself in the jaws of the wolf?

My hands clenched I would not let that happen. As far as I could see this wolf wanted me, I did not know what the reason was but all the incidents pointed to that conclusion. It had disappeared when Hera came as though it only wanted me to see it and the fact that Cara had not been able to remember it also suggested that it was here for me.

The thought made me tense because I could not think of anything that I could possibly offer it yet I must. The sound of women talking filled my ears as I stalked down the corridor which lead to the bedchamber of Kai and Tatiana.

“Please, I told you I don’t know where it is…”

The sound of a slap filled the ear and for a while there was silence. By now I was near the door, my body frozen. I closed my eyes briefly taking a deep breath before I gently pried open the door and stood in the door frame.

My eyes swept over the scene with mass horror. There was the red haired she-wolf, dress in a tattered black dress her hair fell to the ground in a straight wave of fire, her back was faced to me but laying under her I could see Tatiana. Her face was heavily bruised and she was holding her stomach even as the she-wolf grabbed her hair and pulled it managing to lift her from the ground before smacking her into the bedstead behind. The sickening sound of a crack filled the room and the smell of blood overflowed, snaking through the air and suffocating my nose.

“Leave her alone” I said mustering as much strength so my voice wouldn’t shake

The wolf seemed to freeze and a menacing laugh left her body as slowly she turned around. I stood straight, waiting until our eyes met. Her white eyes frothed as though the evil within them could not be contained and she continued to laugh.

“It seems that I have found you at last! Unprotected too…” she paused looking around her a frown lifting onto her face

“Yet what would someone like you be doing in an Alpha House”

I said nothing as she looked around her seeming even more perplexed by the situation. Slowly she moved towards me and I tried to not jump as she caressed my face.

“What is the wolfless one doing here?” she asked

I looked away from her, only to be greeted with a stinging slap

“Answer me!”

I held my cheek, looking up to her refusing to let fear take over.
