Author's Note
There's going to be a later at some point in the chapter so I'm just letting you know that when you see [....] it means that something was written but then crossed out until it is no longer legible
"Does it always hurt like this?" I groaned, stretching while my entire body cracked bit by bit, bones locking into place. My skin felt as though it had been boiled, red and tender. Even the soft fabric I was trying to dress myself it felt as though it was made of tiny needles.
"You get used to it eventually" Tatiana chuckled
I gasped in pain as I tried to tie the back it but then gave up because it just wasn't worth the pain. Somehow I stepped out from behind the screen, my body in disarray and completely off balance. I wobbled, catching myself just before I fell to the ground. Tatiana was sat on the bed, one eyebrow raised and no gesture to show that she would help me as I slowly made my way to the dressing table.
It was the first time I'd looked in the mirror since the change and I was as stunned as everyone else had been to see that my eyes were no longer that familiar dark brown that I had inherited from my mother. They were dark silver, flickering and bright like Kai's red eyes. My skin was completely faultless smooth and glowing from within. It felt as though I was looking at someone else, the girl from the mural in Meridia. A knock on the door disrupted me from my display of vanity, causing me to look away from my reflection and instead to the door.
There was a scent wafting through the door, it was hot, sensual and indescribable. There was this wave of heat that passed over my skin, temporarily making me forget about the pain I was in. Tatiana stared at me strangely as she walked over and opened the door. As I expected Kai was stood, hands clasped together, looking almost nervous.
Realisation seemed to dawn on Tatiana's face and with a small frown she excused herself. Kai stood on the threshold, his eyes looking at the floor. I collected myself for a moment before I invited him in, watching as he closed the door behind him. When he finally dragged his eyes up to meet mine, there was a stabbing pain in my heart just for a moment and then it passed.
"How do you feel?"
"Like I've been ripped apart and sewn anew"
His lips quirked in a charming smile
"An apt description, you get used to it after a while"
"So everyone keeps telling me"
There was a moment of silence, in which I pretended I couldn't see his eyes moving over my exposed back before he forced himself to look at my face again.
"I just came to inform you of a few things"
I nodded slowly, unable to stop wondering whether this was how things were always going to be. I had taken the potion and though I could control my emotions and...urges they were still there. Was this how he'd felt the whole time?
"How do you do it?" the question slipped out of my mouth before I could even stop it.
"Do what?"
My mouth opened and closed as I found myself hesitating. He had promised to not to bring it up again and yet here I was probing the subject even further. But I couldn't help it, some part of me was displeased and I felt the need to fill up the hole with anything I could.
"Resist...are you taking the potion too?"
He stared at me curiously
"No" he answered bluntly, I stared at him for a moment. He hadn't answered my question but I wasn't going to make it him if he didn't want to. When he realised I wouldn't chase him to answer, he settled on the edge bed where Tatiana had been sat. I turned to the mirror for a brief second, vainly entranced by my own eyes.
