I tried to still my mind as Cullen lead me down the now familiar vaults, I concentrated on his proud rhythmic steps sounding on the cold stone; I didn’t want to think about Kai’s furious face as he ripped his hand from mine and left the room without a word. Nor did I wish to think about what I had seen in the Luna Plane, there would be time for that later.

Cullen turned to me as he pushed back the metal doors, the expression of glee on his face was barely containable and for a moment he returned to the young man he had been, the boy who loved his strange little trinkets from lands far from here.

I offered him a gentle smile as we passed through the first hallway.

“My father built this vault to stop eyes from prying” he stated his voice bouncing around in small echoes, the excitement amplified to the point that I was beginning to feel the same way.

He turned to me again before explaining further

“Many wolves thought we were fraternising with humans, they began to spread ridiculous rumours which unfortunately reached the ears of a certain King.”

I nodded, walking beside him in silence. The king had always held great animosity towards humans, more so than the average wolf. I never knew what it was that made him some hostile, after all they were no match for our race. Perhaps it was the arrogance they carried about them, their curious minds always building them up to think they could do more, but then were we not the same?

I sighed it seemed that the King was a bigger puzzle than I had ever imagined. A big puzzle with many missing pieces. Pieces that I would need to find in order to eliminate them.

“I assume you have your next location”

I nodded swiftly, earning me a small chuckle from Cullen. I stared at him, a question deep set in my eyes. He shook his head opening a heavy black door, one of many that lined the hallway. I stepped I’m after him, my eyes frozen on the contents of the room as the door slammed shut.

Cullen’s eyes gleamed at my awed expression, he gestured proudly.

“This is what they call an armoury” he announced

Before me were all weapons that humans had created to defend themselves from each other and occasionally the creatures of the night. Swords, and other devices that I could not name.

“Take your pick”

I needed no further words as I walked around the room mesmerised by the double edged beauty of each weapon. I lifted a device made of wood, with a metal half loop at the top and two elongated sides, I studied it but was unable to understand what its function was.

“It is called a crossbow”

“Crossbow?” I repeated the words rolling over my tongue uncomfortably.

Cullen chuckled and took it from me, he reached into a golden pot and pulled out a finely shaped stick, with a triangular shaped metal head. At the bottom of it, there were feathers carved into it in the same triangle style.
