I could feel Dale’s chest moving rhythmically against my back as his arms caved my body into his, I lay there listening to his steady breathing which suddenly was the sweetest of lullabies. A small smile flirted onto my face as I felt the energy that flew wildly around us like some uncontrollable hurricane, it whirled around us tangibly with a heat that drew me in and made me never want to leave the safe haven that was his body.

The memories of last night made my body tingle as I remembered every amorous kiss, every sweet caress and the gentle whisperings that had quickly escalated into moans and then screams. All my worries and all the pain had dissipated in the same glorious way as when the sun pierces through the most ghastly and sinister fogs. Dale’s hand moved slightly as he shuffled around, his hands held me closer still and small moans escaped from whatever dream he was having. I slowly shifted myself turning around so I faced his chest, his arms jostled around me until once again they encompassed my body,  both finding a resting place on my back, where they lit up small fires.

I looked up from his chest studying his kind and handsome fate, it was currently etched with an expression that was a mixture of fears and anger, his closed eyes scrunched up his brow furrowing furiously.

“Izarra!”

Dale’s eyes opened suddenly just I reached out to comfort him, his calm heart had sped up drastically and as I placed my hand over his chest it seemed to slow down a little. Dale looked down at me with pure relief his eyes clearing up from the remnants of his nightmare. His hands squeezed against my body and he placed a gentle kiss on my lips.

“Nightmare?” I asked

He nodded with a ghost of smile, avoiding my eyes completely as he looked towards the door. After the mating although I couldn’t speak to him mentally, I was aware of his  every  emotion it had made last night all the more intense, we were connected mind body and soul. And right now he was trying to avoid something.

“Dale you have to tell me eventually”

His eyes stayed away from mine still staring at the door, a sigh heaved his chest. I moved out of his arms and sat up, I could feel him reluctantly letting go before sitting up himself.

“I know” he said with another sigh

I regarded him for a few more minutes taking in his worry ridden face. My mind flashed back to the men who carried the seal of the king. There was a possibility that they weren’t here for but I knew that was the least likely scenario, especially  with the  way Dale was acting.

“I never knew love was so dangerous” he whispered next to me

I turned to look at him once more, he stared at me with a wary smile reaching out to take my hand. Slowly he intertwined our hands looking down at them with satisfaction. My eyes looked down with him, this very gesture was a symbol of all we were, friends, mates, lovers but first and foremost family. The family that I had been there at my birth were not the ones that I felt safe with, it was nowhere else but with him in this pack and I would hold his hand from now until the day I died.

“I never knew how it felt to be so engrossed in someone that all that ever stays on your mind is them. That the slightest threat of danger posed towards them, make you want to keep them close by you…”
