I can hear people outside my room talking. They must be talking to the doctor. Who is it though? Law? Dad?
Whoever it was said "Thank you" before opening the door and walking inside. They closed the door before their footsteps got closer to me. It's killing me not knowing who it is.
Something heavy scratched against the floor as it was pulled closer to me. Whoever it was made a thump and then proceeded to mess with a wrapper of some sort. They must have pulled a chair up and sat down next to my bed. I should have known. They have done this a thousand times.
"Hi (y/n). How have you been? Oops, sorry. I know you can't respond."
Its Law. I guess we all have our moments where we forget. This surprises me since I have been like this for nine years.
"Shanks-san will be in soon." He paused, "I'm sorry (y/n). This is all my fault."
I've heard you say this a million times Law. it's okay. I just wish I could tell you it's okay.
"You've missed out on the last nine years of your life because of me. If I was paying more attention that night, I could've seen that car, we wouldn't have gotten hit, and you wouldn't be in a coma." Law said as his words became slurred like he was starting to cry.
I don't want you to talk about it anymore. It's fine. I wanna hear about your life. Is anything new? How's Bepo? Kidd?
"Sorry. I know I shouldn't get so hung up on it. It happened nine years ago. I just feel like I let you and Shanks-san down. I don't want to lose any more family."
That's not gonna happen Law. If I ever wake up, The first thing I'm doing is hugging you and dad.
The door opened up again and someone stumbled inside, mumbling curses under his breath. Well, Shanks is here.
"I hate these damn hospital doors," Dad said.
"They are normal doors, Shanks-san."
"No, they are not. " He argued, obviously trying to push Law's buttons.
"How are they any different from the doors at home?"
I didn't hear Shanks respond, but I heard Law huff, telling me that my father made a gesture. Probably a shoulder shrug which irritated Law.
"What do you think she thinks about all day?" My dad asked Law as he poked my forehead. I heard a slap and my father say "Ow."
The bed dipped by my feet and I felt Shanks' legs touch the side of my arm.
Even after all this time, the routine is still the same. Law pulls up a chair and sits next to my bed, while Shanks sits on the bed with me. He always sits by my feet with his body facing me. Sometimes my father sits on different sides of me, and that's the only thing that changes.
They come here every few days to catch up. They live together in an apartment on the other side of town, but they rarely see each other due to their busy schedules. Shanks was thinking about moving into a house on the outskirts of town, but the medical bills kept him in a shitty apartment.
Law hasn't moved out yet because of Bepo. Having a dog while being a heart surgeon isn't a very smart idea. His schedule is all types of confusing and sometimes he gets called in to perform surgery even when it's his time off.
Even though he has a busy schedule, he still managed to find time to rekindle a romance with Kidd. Law has always kept me up to date with the Kidd drama so I am pretty worried about him.
"I think I know what (y/n) thinks about all day," Shanks said.
"And what would that be?"
"She probably thinks about how you need to get over what happened."
