EDITED: 08/30/22My alarm clock goes off, interrupting my sleep. I reach over and slap my hand down on the stop button, causing the whole clock to fall to the ground. I sigh and sit up on my bed. The first day of school is here, and I'm not excited about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see my friends that I've made last year, but when school starts, it feels like every day is the same. Wake up, eat, go to school, come home, do your homework, and fall asleep only just to wake up again and do the same shit the next day.
I make my way to my shower, bringing my toothbrush and toothpaste with me inside to save time. After the shower, I put on grey Acid Wash Jeans, a white T-Shirt, and a studded belt.
"Lookin good," I mumble to myself while looking in the bathroom mirror.
I walk to the closet again and grab the leather jacket my mother put in the closet yesterday evening. I grab my backpack that was sitting on my desk and head downstairs for some breakfast. I grab a bagel and quickly toast it, and put cream cheese on it.
"Mateo, come down to eat!" I call.
My mother doesn't seem to be home which means I have to take care of him. I have no problem with taking care of Mateo. It's the fact that my mother isn't there for him. What if he someday asks where she is, and I don't have the answer to it? What if she never does come home?
I snap out of my thoughts and realize that Mateo didn't answer.
"Mateo?" I call out again.
Just as I walk to the stairs, the door opens.
"I already took him to school," my mother says.
"Oh... good," I reply.
I finish up my bagel and put on my Doc Martens. I grab my skateboard and walkman and wave to my mother as I head to school. I start playing For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica.
I skate into the parking lot of the school and see Steve and Nancy leaning on his car.
"Hey, guys!" I say.
"Hey," they both say.
"Ready for another year, L/N?" Steve jokes.
"More than you know, Harrington," I say sarcastically.
I hear a familiar Camero pull into the parking lot, and everyone turns their head.
"The son is going to this school, huh?" I whisper to myself.
"What?" Nancy questions.
"Nothing," I respond.
A lot of people around me start whispering about who this boy is, and I just have to laugh to myself. Here in Hawkins, everyone cares about every little thing. Why? Because it's Hawkins and nothing ever goes on here.
His boot hits the pavement, and everyone whispers more silently while some of the girls are grinning at his appearance. When he fully arises out of his car I can finally see his face more clearly. He stands taking a drag of his cigarette while I see a red-headed girl getting out of his car. He doesn't pay attention to her as she skates off.
A skater, huh? This should be interesting.
I see her skate off toward the middle school. That must be his little sister. I finally turn my attention back to him to already see him staring at me across the parking lot. He flashes that same smirk he did to me the night before and takes another drag of his cigarette. I roll my eyes and turn my attention back to Steve and Nancy.
"You guys wanna head inside? It's almost time for school, anyway," I suggest.
Based on how everyone is whispering about this guy, I have no doubt he will have any trouble gaining popularity or fitting in here. I bet he could have any girl that roams the halls here at Hawkins High if he wanted to.
