TW: DEPRESSION, MENTION OF SELF HARM
Steve and I went to the park for a while, but now he's taking me to an Italian restaurant. He pulls into the parking lot, and we walk in together.
"Hello, table for two, please?" Steve says.
"Of course, right this way," the waiter says.
She seats us, and we order our drinks and food.
"Thank you," I say as I hand her back our menus.
"Of course, it'll be out soon," she replies.
I nod, and she walks away. Steve smiles at me, and I return it.
"So, did you have fun today?" he asks.
"Yeah, I really did. Thank you," I admit.
"We should do it again sometime," he suggests.
"Yeah, I agree. I needed to get out and away from all the...madness in my neighborhood, so," I slightly smile.
"What madness?" Steve questions.
"Well, I don't know. I guess I just needed to get out," I say.
"Is it Billy?" Steve asks.
I hesitate for a moment but sigh and decide to tell the truth.
"Yeah, uh, Max too," I admit.
"What's wrong with them?" he asks.
"I think Max has depression, and Billy tries to escape all his problems by partying. Max has been quiet and doesn't want to leave the house and the only time Billy wants to leave the house is for a party. I'm always stuck with either Billy being drunk or hungover," I sigh.
"Oh, that sounds rough," Steve says, grabbing my hand.
"Well, you ain't wrong," I snort.
"Maybe I could help? Y'know with Max," Steve suggests.
"How?" I ask.
"I don't know... let's convince her to come somewhere with us. Maybe we can take a road trip somewhere," Steve says with a crooked smile.
I feel relief, and I smile.
"Yeah, maybe that could work," I grin.
"Sounds like a plan. When would you want to go?" Steve asks.
"I don't know... on the weekend?" I suggest.
"Okay, how about next weekend or something?"
"Yeah, I don't think I have anything going on. Where should we go?" I ask.
"Well, maybe we could get a city map and look at things in different cities. Fun things of course," Steve suggests.
"Yeah, sounds good," I reply.
He nods with a smile and the waiter brings out our food.
"Thank you so much," I say.
"Any time," she replies.
She walks off and I begin to eat my meal.
"Hey, uh, I was thinking..." Steve starts.
I look up from my plate and wait for him to continue. He shakes his head and begins to eat his meal.
"What's wrong, Steve?" I ask.
"Oh, it's nothing. Seriously," he excuses.
"No, there's clearly something wrong," I say.
