My mother had asked me to go pick up Mateo from Ms.Wheeler's house. I drive over, fiddling with my necklace. I park in front of their house and knock on their door. As expected, Nancy opens the door.

"Oh, hey, Y/N!" Nancy smiles.

"Hey, Nance," I reply.

"Come on in," she says.

I walk in and see Mateo sitting on the floor watching TV and eating breakfast.

"Do I hear Ms.Y/N at the door?" I hear a voice call from the kitchen.

I smile and Nancy and I walk in the kitchen to see Ms.Wheeler making a pancake.

"It is! How have you been?" Mrs. Wheeler smiles, pulling me in for a hug.

"I've been good," I reply.

"Have you eaten today?" she asks.

"No not yet," I respond.

She pulls away and puts the pancake she just made on a plate.

"Here, eat," she says.

"Oh, no it's-"

"Eat! You look tired do you want coffee?" She asks.

I sigh and give in.

"Sure," I grin.

She begins to make it and when she finishes preparing it she sits down next to me. Nancy makes her way upstairs to her room.

"Now that my daughter is gone, what's wrong sweetie?" Mrs.Wheeler asks.

"What do you mean? I'm just tired," I sigh.

"No, you're not. What's going on?"

I put my head in my hands and sigh.

"My boyfriend and I broke up last night is all," I say.

"Oh, sweetie come here," Mrs.Wheeler frowns.

She pulls me into a hug and it feels safe. Mrs. Wheeler has always cared for me, even when my mother was being an asshole. She let me vent to her. She always knew my situation including when I started to work at the arcade due to my mom and I's argument about drugs.

I pull away and I sigh.

"I just need to get away for a while. I have enough money for myself, but I want to bring Mateo along too. I want to show him a life outside of Hawkins, you know?" I sigh.

"I completely understand. Do you still work at the arcade?" Mrs. Wheeler asks.

"Yeah," I say.

"How much does the arcade pay you?" she questions.
