(tw: death)
When she heard the knocking on the door, it snapped Mon out of her train of thought as her head snapped to look at who will open it this time.
The last time, it was her friend Riley.
Riley had gone there to check up on her, worried. She had brought food that was still now on top of the table where she had left it. Kailangan ko nang ilagay yan sa ref, she thought. Wala naman siyang balak kainin.
Riley had also came to ask her if she really didn't want to come to their Christmas party, her best friend wanted to make her feel better pero she just refused again, saying that she wanted to be there when she wakes up.
If she ever does, she thought to herself.
Tipid siyang ngumiti nang makita ang kanyang lola sa pintuan.
Natutulog ang lola niya ngayon sa kanilang tahanan, mag-iisang linggo na. Sabi niya kailangan daw may mag-bantay ng bahay.
Miguel had been busy with his work na iniwan niya ng isang linggo, who nows how much of a pile he's going through right now.
With the absence of his wife, alangan mas marami pa siyang ginagawa.
Lola Sita looked at her with hope in her eyes that soon went away when she shook her head. Hindi pa rin siya gumigising, she thought.
Sita approached her with a plastic bag on her hand, laman no'n pagkain. "You should eat, mija." sabi niya, nag-aalala na sa apo niyang nangangayayat na.
"Lagay niyo na po diyan, kakainin ko po mamaya." Sita smiled tightly, already expecting that to be her answer.
Sita sighed and put down the food on top of the table, kung saan nakalagay yung binigay ni Riley. "You've been here all week, miha. Don't you want to go home for a day? Ako muna magbabantay sa nanay mo."
She forced a smile. "I'm okay 'la. I promise."
"Don't your friend group have some Christmas party?" tanong niya. "You should go have fun with them, mija."
While my mom's in a coma?, she thought. She counted to five to calm herself down, stopping herself from blurting out the words in her head.
Wala pa siyang tulog, it was hard for her to be patient.
"I told them I'm not coming, abuela." sagot niya sa lola niya.
Sita let out a deep sigh and nodded, finally letting her be. The old woman knew she couldn't do anything to make her feel any better or force her out of this room.
Sita stayed with her for an hour, neither one of them letting out a word. Sita knew she wasn't in the mood for talk, or even small talk. She hasn't been since she arrived.
The only thing old woman could do was look at her with worried eyes, eyes that she only saw through her peripheral vision dahil ang tanging tinitignan niya ay ang nanay niya.
After a while tumayo na ang lola niya and got ready to leave.
Before she left she took the bag that had her clothes inside, binalik niya yun sa pwesto dahil nakita niyang dalawa palang ang nababawas sa mga damit na binigay niya dito. Sighing as she checked inside.
"Call me when you need assistance, mija. Yung tatay mo paalis na niyan sa work so just wait for him, okay?" sabi niya while caressing her hair, trying to give her a little bit of comfort that she knew wouldn't work. Sita hoped that her son would do something about this.
She nodded and gave Sita a smile. "Thanks, 'la. Ingat po kayo pauwi."
Sita gave her a smile back before heading towards the door. She gave her one final look before completely leaving her inside the room.
