"Hello?"

"Hey, Mrs. Byers?"

"Yes?"

"Oh, well, I was just looking for Jonathan."

"Who is this?"

"It's me, Angelica Munson. We met yesterday, but I guess we weren't properly introduced."

"Oh, you're that older girl I spoke to."

"Yeah, that's me."

"So, how do you know Jonathan?"

"He's a friend of mine. I just wanted to call because I didn't see him today. Thought maybe he stayed home with Will."

"No, he's not here."

"How is Will?"

"I don't know quite yet, but I think he'll be okay."

"That's good. Well, that's all I was calling for. Guess I just missed him in the hallways. Thanks, Mrs. Byers."

"Call me Joyce."

"Goodbye, Joyce."

"Bye-bye, honey."

Jonathan was right. She really is the nicest lady in Hawkins.

Angie hangs up the payphone and heads to fourth period alone. As always, the boys are playing basketball, Steve and Billy trash-talking each other to victory.

"King Steve, everyone!"

Angie will never admit it, because she's a freak, but she's always loved sports.

She's good at them too—especially basketball.

She used to play with all the street kids, and they all could've sworn Angelica Munson was the best on the court.

But in middle school, her teammates decided it was more fun to be her enemy, so Angie quit and never looked back.

Billy's smack talk always gets on her nerves.

"What's with all the talk, Hargrove? Just play the damn game!" she yells from her seat, immediately turning back to her homework to avoid the commentary.

"You heard her: just play the damn game," Steve mutters as Billy throws him to the ground to make the layup.

Billy grabs Steve's arm to pull him closer. "Careful, Harrington. If you start siding with the freaks, you might just become one."

"Shut up, Billy. I'm not siding with anyone, alright."

"Sure, Harrington. Whatever you say."

At the end of school, Eddie finally agrees to show up to study hall because Angie wouldn't leave him alone about it.

That means she's biking home alone—a long and boring journey.

When Steve Harrington unexpectedly offers her a ride after her bike tire pops, she accepts.

"You're treading in dangerous territory, Harrington. Get caught with me and you're a dead man," Angie says, adjusting her seat and placing her legs to the side.

"Yeah, yeah, but I won't get caught, so I guess we're good."

"So, there's a little rumor about trouble in paradise with you and the princess."

"Yeah, she ran off with that freak—Byers."

"She what?"

"Yep. Apparently, those two skipped together and haven't been seen since."

"Huh... so that's where he went."

"Who?"

"Jonathan. I couldn't find him. I even called his house. Just didn't know where he went."
