"Hi," Dustin says shyly.
"Hi," Robin responds, her usual deadpan tone barely concealing amusement.
"I'm Dustin," he continues, smiling nervously.
"I'm Robin. Pleasure to meet you," she replies politely.
Dustin tilts his head. "Is he... uh... here?"
"Is who here?" Robin asks.
At that moment, Steve comes rushing out of the back door, practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. "Henderson! He's back!"
"I'm back! You got the job?" Dustin beams.
"I got the job!" Steve blows a fake trumpet, grinning ridiculously.
They giggle and perform their own nerdy, complicated handshake, twisting fingers and clapping at the end like only they can.
Robin sighs from behind the counter. "How many children are you friends with?"
Steve gestures vaguely toward her, as if saying, "You see what I've had to deal with?"
Suddenly, Angie slides into the store—literally.
She slips on the polished tile and bounces off a table and chair before landing on her knees.
"Ow!" she hisses, rubbing her shin. "Dude, I thought we agreed to wait for each other. I locked my bike and turned around, but you weren't there."
"Sorry, I just got excited," Dustin admits with a happy shrug.
"I should've known," Angie mutters, twisting her face at the pain. "You two are basically inseparable."
"Yeah," Steve clears his throat. "Um... would you guys like some ice cream?"
"That sounds great, Steve," Dustin says, already scanning the open booths.
He pauses, noticing Angie inspecting her leg for more injuries. "Ange?"
She straightens up quickly. "Yeah?"
"Would you... uh... like some ice cream?"
"Yeah, thanks. I'll have a—"
"Triple chocolate," Steve says proudly. "Yeah, I know."
"Thank you," she says, slightly amused.
He nods and strides behind the counter. "Hey, Robin?"
"Yes?" she peeks from behind the service window.
"Could you get their ice creams, please? I need to grab something from the back."
"But I'm already in the back, so I—"
"Please, Robin. You wouldn't know where to find it."
Robin groans childishly. "Fine..."
"What does the kid want?"
"Dustin wants a banana split, and... Angie wants a triple chocolate cone."
"Thanks," Steve says with a grin.
Robin scoops the ice cream and starts toward the table, but Steve returns quickly.
"I've got it," he says, picking up the cones.
"Are you sure, Popeye?" Robin teases, hands on her hips. "You just wanted me to scoop ice cream so you could look like a knight in shining stripes?"
He rolls his eyes. "Thanks, Robin."
Carefully, he carries the ice cream to the table and sets them down.
Dustin perks up. "Come, sit with us. We have something to tell you."
