Mary was just chilling on her bed, staring at the ceiling without a care in the world. She felt super relaxed when her phone dinged. Stretching out a bit, she reached over to grab it from her bedside drawer.
She opened it up, and a message popped up. She read it without feeling much of anything.
"Hello.
It's Samuel, sorry I'm just sending a message now."
She thought for a moment about how to respond and finally settled on a polite reply that felt right at the moment.
"Hi, it's cool." She replied and the conversation kicked off from there. They got to know a lot about one another and Mary was happy chatting with a new person who shared similar interests as her and is capable of making her see certain things from another point of view. She found Samuel interesting and a welcomed change from all the people she had been coming across since she moved to Lagos.
And that was how her entire day turned from a boring day to an interesting one all thanks to her new friend if she could call him that after all that transpired between them and the fact that he was Dean's friend but she didn't care at that moment as long as he can keep her occupied and out a smile on her face that was all that she needed.
Happiness and peace whether it came from a new friend or an old one made no difference to her as long as she was enjoying the conversation.
The following day at school Mary was having lunch along with Angela when her phone vibrated on the table, she picked it up and opened the message only for her to laugh out loud causing Angela and people from the table close to her to turn and give her weird looks which she didn't even notice until Angela cleared her throat.
She looked up and gave her a "What do you want" Angela who by now is used to her mood swings didn't even feel slightly offended and pointed to her phone with a raised eyebrow.
Mary sighed and passed it to her watching how Angela's face changed the more she scrolled through her messages.
"Since when has this been going on!" She shouted with a mix of excitement and scolding in her tone
Mary shrugged and pointed to her phone that was still in Angela's hand "Since you read the chat you can as well see the date there" She replied with an indifferent look
"Do you not see what is happening here? This guy is the same person that offended you not long ago and pranked you yet here you are chatting so intimately with him like you are both long-lost friends" Mary chuckled as she looked at Angela who gave her a glare that looked nonthreatening look.
"It was a mistake and you know that too, he is a genuinely nice guy and there is nothing intimate about our chat" Mary replied
"I hope you are right about him and this whole thing is not another plot to get back at you," Angela said seriously
"Cheer up jor, lemme enjoy having a new friend for now and if I find anything fishy later I will give him his size," Mary said confidently just as her phone pinged. She picked it up and after reading the message displayed on the phone screen she laughed and passed the phone to Angela.
"Tigress, I heard your exam is creeping up soon. Ready to ditch your books for a little fun before the brain workout?"
Angela chuckled as she read the message, a smile spreading across her face.
"I see what you're getting at. So, are you going to hang out with him?"
"Absolutely!" Mary replied, her fingers dancing over her phone screen with excitement.

Stepping out of the Uber, Mary felt a rush of anticipation as she arrived at the park. Just as she looked around, Samuel appeared like he had sensed her presence.
"Did you plan this to make me look like your loyal servant standing here? Because if you did, congratulations, madam, you've succeeded!" Samuel teased, and Mary couldn't help but roll her eyes dramatically.
"And I thought you only reserved your flirting for the phone," she quipped, a playful grin on her face as he led her toward the play center.
"I can be whatever you want me to be," Samuel replied, wiggling his eyebrows with mock seriousness, making Mary giggle as she followed him inside.
The play center was relatively quiet, providing the perfect backdrop for their banter as they stepped in, excitement crackling in the air.
They got in and Mary glared at Samuel as he paid for the ticket card and their entrance fee.
"Why won't you allow me to pay? You do know that I have money too right?" Samuel laughed as they walked inside.
"With that attitude, I'm sure you're swimming in it but I invited you out and not the other way around."
"Does that mean I get to treat you when we meet again?" Mary teased with a mischievous glint in her eye, causing Samuel to chuckle in delight.
"I must be doing something right if you're already plotting our next adventure together. That makes me happy!" Mary felt flustered but she refused to let it show.
"You should be it's not easy to get my time you know."
"Absolutely, your highness! What do you want to do first?" Samuel exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement as his eyes danced across the array of thrilling rides scattered throughout the vibrant park.
"Let's kick things off with the virtual reality spinning chair! I've heard it's a blast!" Samuel eagerly nodded as they dashed toward the attraction, anticipation bubbling over.
