You all think Notch invented Minecraft, don't you. That he was the one that created one of the greatest games of all time. Well, you're all wrong.

I was born in a dimension different from yours, a completely different world named Minecraftia. I was one of three children - Notch, Steve, and I. In this world, everyone looked the same, what you would call the default skin. Instead of being created from atoms, everything is made of code, and genders do not exist. The humans rule the day, but at night, it is the kingdom of strange creatures.

This system worked well. We didn't attack the creatures, and they didn't attack us. Everything was peaceful in this world of Minecraftia.

But then my older brother, Notch, rebelled. He hated the system, and wanted both the night and day to belong to the humans. He went about trying to find a way to let the humans rule Minecraftia.

He quickly realised, though, that he couldn't do it on his own. He tried to persuade others to help him, but to no avail. Many others like him had gone out at night with the same insane idea, and had never been heard from again.

I thought he would give up at that point. He didn't.

Notch withdrew from society. He spent all his time in the house we had made, not letting me know anything about what he was doing. Sometimes I listened closely at the door, but I only heard strange mutterings and whispers.

One day, I was surprised to see him trudging downstairs, looking very bedraggled. "Notch! You're finally back to normal!" I shouted, and ran over to hug him. However, he only pushed me away.

"Herobrine, you've got to see this," he said, his voice serious. I asked no questions and followed him to his room.

What I saw inside made my jaw drop. It was a huge portal, constructed from blocks I had never seen before. It glowed a pale gold, glittering and welcoming.

"W... what is it?" I breathed.

"A portal to another dimension," said Notch, and I gasped.

"I didn't think that was possible," I said in awe. "What is it made from?"

"Purestone," Notch told me, and laughed at the blank look on my face. "I discovered a few blocks when in a dungeon once. They fascinated me, and turned out to have certain... properties that made this possible.

"So, shall we go?"

"What!?" I cried, "No can do! I'm not going in there! Who knows what might lie beyond?"

Notch shrugged. "Fine, Brine. See you later." And he stepped into the portal and vanished.

I couldn't believe it. My only brother had just abandoned me. I might never see him again.

What if he was killed? Maybe I should have followed him. But then I could die as well.

The next few days I spent in agony, waiting for my brother to come back. I saw no one. I only sat in front of the portal, anxiously awaiting Notch's return.

Suddenly, one day, I was awoken by something landing on my back heavily. I looked up to see Notch, dazed and confused.

"Notch!" I screamed, and this time I gave him a proper hug.

"Brother... I have found the solution to my problem," he smiled, and my eyes widened. "I am sorry, but I must go back as soon as possible," he added quickly, and jumped back through the portal.

This time, I wasn't worried. Perhaps Notch had found a new home on the other side of the portal, where humans ruled both night and day. I was sociable again, having fun with my friends without a care in the world.
