Jadyn’s POV
I woke up to the alarm beeping and to me it sounded like the beeps kept getting louder. I sat up and clicked it off as I saw it was only 7:30. ‘Why am I up?’ I thought as I remembered. ‘Oh ya, college.’ I thought getting out of bed and walking to my bathroom. I really just wanted to go back to be and I was seriously jet lagged. I turned on the shower and waited for it to heat up before I stepped into it. Knowing I did not have a long time until I had to leave. I quickly washed off then stepped out. I dried off and pulled on bleached skinny jeans and a grey sweater with a black heart in the center of it. I left my hair to air dry as I searched for my grey vans which were nowhere to be found. Finally I remembered they were in my suitcase and got them out and pulled them on. I quickly swiped on make-up on my face and brushed my hair. I rushed to my kitchen and got a yogurt. I ate it as I located everything I needed for my two classes today. I found everything I needed and threw the container in the trash and the spoon in the sink. I grabbed my phone and my bag and walked toward my door. I locked it and walked toward the elevator where I saw was closing.
“Hold it please!” I yelled as a hand stuck out and the elevator’s door opened.
“Thank you,” I said as I looked up to see Niall with two other guys and Caitlyn.
“Good morning Jadyn!” Caitlyn said as I smiled at her.
“Good morning. How are you?” I asked her as she smiled at me.
“Tired. I have been sleeping in all summer until ten or later until yesterday that is. How are you? I mean with the jet lag and everything,” she said as she ignored everybody else in the elevator.
Niall was talking to the other two guys and they seemed like they were friends and Caitlyn was looking at me expectantly and I suddenly remembered her question.
“I’m doing okay. I’m tired too. I think I need to wake up earlier. My jet lag is kicking in and I slept most of the day yesterday,” I told her as she nodded.
“I bet. I wouldn’t know I have only been to England and France. Have you been anywhere else?” she asked looking at me.
Then it seemed like everybody was looking at me and I became aware that they were. Niall and the two guys were both looking at me expectantly along with Caitlyn.
“I’ve been all over North America. I’ve been to Central and South America. I went to Africa two summers ago on a school trip. I went to France and Italy one year for my parents’ anniversary. I went to Australia on a discovery thing for school and i’ve been in China for five hours,” I told her as she stared at me surprised.
“That is so cool! Niall has been a lot of places with his band and what not but that is so amazing! Have you been to Ireland?” she asked as I shook my head.
“My teacher was taking a group of students this summer but I couldn’t make it because I was here looking around. I was really disappointed,” I told her truthfully as she nodded.
“It’s a beautiful country,” one of the guys said in a British accent.
“I enjoyed it,” the other said nodding as Niall smiled.
“Oh! These are Niall’s friends Josh and Liam. They were in his band…” Caitlyn trailed off as I smiled at them.
“Nice to meet you,” I said as the elevator’s doors opened and I saw a bunch of college students rushing for the doors.
“Are you walking to school?” Caitlyn asked as me as we stepped off and headed toward the doors.
“I am are you?” I asked as she nodded.
“Niall said he could drive me but I want to walk. Bye babe!” she said heading over to Niall and I kept walking.
A couple minutes later I was crossing the street and heading toward the sidewalk when Caitlyn appeared next to me. We walked in silence for about ten minutes before she kicked a stone and sighed.
“So… What classes do you have today?” she asked as she kicked another stone.
“I have Literature I and Writing,” I told her as she nodded.
“I have AP English II and Music History I. I don’t really start knowing stuff until next semester. How many classes did you say you were taking this semester?” she asked looking at me for a second.
“I never did say, but I am taking five. I have the two today, and then tomorrow I have Grammar and Composition One. On Wednesday I have Computers. Then I am free on Thursday and Friday I have Creative Writing,” I told her as I nodded.
“Wow. I hate writing. Except if it is for songs,” Caitlyn said as I nodded understandingly.
We walked some more in silence and then we arrived at school. I reached the building I had class in and waved to Caitlyn as she walked away.
“See you later!” she called as she walked away and I walked into the building.
I found my class quickly and found an empty seat. There were students inside already seated and after getting out a notebook and pencil I saw more people coming in. After ten minutes a professor walked in and shut the door.
“Good morning class. I am Professor Chandler. This is Literature I, if you are not scheduled for this class I suggest you leave. I am passing a sign-in sheet around and all you need to do is sign your name next to your name. Also I will be passing around a syllabus which has all the chapters we will be reading,” the professor said passing out a stack of paper.
When the sign-in sheet came I quickly signed my name and passed the sheet to my right just as the stack of syllabuses came to me. I grabbed one and passed it on also. I scanned the top page just as the professor coughed.
“Alright. Since we have a small class I want us all to say is your name and one interesting fact about yourself,” she said as she sat on a desk and looked at everyone.
“I’ll start. My name is Angie Chandler and I have been teaching Literature I for fifteen years now. Okay let us start right here and just go down the line,” Professor Chandler said pointing towards the person five spots away from me.
After five introductions it was my turn and I said, “My name is Jadyn Mattson and I am from Los Angeles.”
The professor nodded in interest and the person next to me started talking about herself. Introductions continued and then we got lectured about expectations and then we had our first couple assignments. We were to learn fifty vocab words and we would take a quiz on them next Monday. We also were to write a paper about a famous writer and not ‘bore’ her and then read a book from a list on the syllabus and write a book report on it. Soon we were dismissed and I hurried to get to Writing I.***
