Your 21st birthday is supposed to be legendary right? You're an adult, able to drink legally, party and just enjoy life. Well, not for me, I had the most un-legendary birthday in the history of birthday's.
When my 21st birthday came around 2 weeks ago I received a letter to Lupin Academy, a prestigious school for alpha, beta and gamma children, where they can complete their training. Let's just say I was not excited about this.
Being the second child of an alpha bloodline means I'm required to go to the school to 'train' for a position in the pack, but considering my older brother is currently in alpha training and will take the position it's completely unnecessary for me, if you ask me, but nobody is interested in my opinion on the matter because it's expected of me.
But that's where I find myself now 2 weeks later in the car on the way to Lupin Academy, both my parents chatting away about how excited they are for me to join Jasper at the academy at long last.
"Cerise! Are you even listening to me?" My mother suddenly shouts, dragging me away from my thoughts. "Of course you aren't listening to me, always tucked away in your mind you! Well, i was just saying how wonderful it will be for you to see your brother some more! Don't you think?"
"Yes, Mother, it will be so good to see him again" I say with fake enthusiasm that my parents don't seem to recognise.
Really what my parents don't know is how Jasper and I have barely spoken in the last 2 years he's been at the academy and how this is unlikely to change. The only upside to going to the academy is that my best-friend Bryan will be there, he's the beta's second child and my childhood friend from birth. He's about my only friend really.
"Cerise I know you may be nervous about going to the school but I think it will really help you to understand the role you play as an alphas daughter, especially for when you meet your mate in the future" My dad says as stern as ever, not really understanding my desire to not help lead the pack.
I rolled my eyes ignoring them and putting my earphones in, ending all conversation about school, family and alpha training. That's how the rest of the ride went, my music, the scenery and the gentle swaying of the car as we drove towards Lupin Academy. Some time later the scenery started to change from the open fields to wooded forests, complete with the colours of the autumn leaves. The roads started to become rougher as we drove further into the woods and closer to the academy. It's how I knew I was closer to the place I never wanted to be. An hour later the woods started to open up again as we reached the big steel gates of the academy, where a guard was posted to ensure no humans would pass onto the lands.
Fortunately for us most humans didn't know about us. There were some who were trusted with the secrets of supernaturals and some higher official figures that knew of us but that was only because it was necessary. Wolves didn't really interact with those outside of their packs much.
As my dad stopped to speak to the guard so we could pass through the gates I took my time to admire the symbol on them. The Lupin crest was a representation of werewolf origin, the crest of Fenrir the first werewolf, made with an outline or Fenrir's huge and vicious wolf with glowing ruby red eyes, the eyes of a true alpha and surrounded by thorny, flowery vines to form a circular shape. Suddenly the car started moving again and we were off driving up the winding driveway towards the towering Lupin Academy.
At first glance the academy would look like a castle to most with its sheer size and it probably used to be back in the day, but now most of it is closed off with only the first 3 floors being used by the academy, the top 2 floors reserved to house the staff and their offices. Each floor was assigned to each pack level; alpha, beta and gamma, as a second alpha child I would be on the third floor with the other alpha trainees. Upon further inspection it became clear just how old the academy really was, ivy clung to the walls of the building, shadowing the windows and hiding the crumbling stone beneath. This wouldn't be visible to most but as a werewolf with enhanced eyesight the slight cracks and crumbling stone couldn't be hidden, not even by the ivy.
