I glanced over at Kurapika, filled with worry about the Hunter Exam. It had been a year since I'd last seen Killua, Leorio and Gon, but Kurapika and I have grown very close. We were planning on taking the next Hunter exam, and we're both extremely nervous. Over the year, I'd learnt about where the blonde had come from, and how much he wanted the Kurta eyes back. I had agreed to help him out, but he didn't seem to want anything but to kill the spiders.
"It'll be fine." He said confidently. "What's the worst that can happen?"
"Uh, we die?" I questioned, rolling my eyes. "We can't just overlook that." He paused for a minute and then nodded, smirking slightly.
"Way to put down the tension, Y/n." I laughed. He never failed to make me feel better.
We both looked up to see the ship we were on docking for Whale Island- a small faraway island that was apparently pretty relaxed.
"We are now at our last stop before the Hunter exam commences- Whale Island." I raced to the side of the boat, leaving Kurapika behind briefly. The island was beautiful. I sighed dreamily, wishing I'd had more of a chance to explore it. I spun around to look behind me, but Kurapika was no where to be seen. Probably off somewhere reading a book. I giggled slightly at the thought.
"Y-Y/n?"
I turned to the other direction. I saw a spikey haired boy staring at me in disbelief. I frowned at him.
"I-is that you?" My eyes widened briefly for a moment, but I jumped forward and tackled him into a hug, squeezing him tightly.
"GON!!!" I yelled, so loud that Kurapika came out to see what all the fuss was about. He smiled and ran over too, joining our hug.
"I really missed you guys!" I heard Gon say.
"Us too!" Replied Kurapika, smiling even brighter.
"Yo, guys!" We all spun around to see Leorio- looking old as ever- waving frantically at us. He walked over lazily and put his hands on his hips, smirking. "Fancy seeing you here." We all released ourselves from the hug and stood in a circle, smiling at each other.
"How've you guys been?" I half yelled. Then, it hit me. Killua was the only one not here. I looked around to see if I could catch a glimpse at the snowy haired boy, but no one was to be seen.
"Good!" Replied Gon. "As soon as I'm a Hunter, I'm going to find my dad!" He pumped the air, giving us all a big toothy grin.
"And I'm planning on being a doctor." Leorio said, scratching the back of his neck. Kurapika said nothing, but I knew what he wanted to do anyway- defeat the spiders and retrieve the Kurta eyes. I'd let him explain that in his own time, I suppose.
"Hey..." I said as casually as possible, biting my lip. "Anyone heard from Killua?" They all shook their heads sadly.
"He said he'd keep in touch," Gon explained, "but I haven't heard from him at all."
We spent the next few hours talking about what was happening in our lives and catching up. Leorio's friend died, and I presumed that was why he wanted to be a doctor. As for Gon, he was as bright as ever, talking about how he was going to find his dad and how confident he was about it. Kurapika and I talked a bit about our lives, but there was nothing too interesting there. All we were doing was studying in Hunter Academy, really. I sighed in annoyance- I wanted a secure goal to head towards.
"Hey... Y/n..." Leorio said awkwardly. "What do you want to do?" I sighed heavily again, throwing my head backwards.
"I don't know!" I said. "I have nothing to work towards!" They all look at each other before I felt two hands on my shoulders; Gon and Kurapika.
"Until then, you can stick with us!" Gon said, smiling.
"Yeah." Kurapika added, his grip tightening slightly on my shoulder. "That was our deal anyway." I nodded and hugged them both. I was lucky to have them.
Timeskip: after the boat trip. You guys know what happens~
Gon walked over to us, a big smile on his face. He'd just been talking with the captain. He gestured over to a lone tree in the distance confidently.
"Over there!" Even though it didn't look right and there were people getting on a bus, I decided to trust him anyway- the captain had obviously told him something. Kurapika also came. Leorio was reluctant, but eventually agreed, explaining that he was worried and didn't want us to get hurt. I just rolled my eyes at Kurapika, who smiled at me from the corner of his mouth. We'd definitely gotten close.
We carried on catching up as we made our way up the mountain. Something told me that the exam would be interesting.
