(AN: okay, so I know the chimera ants I use are dead by this point, but bare with me and remember this is a fanfiction and I've moved the plot around a little)

"Hey,  Killua..." I said, breaking our silence as we both ran through the forest towards this 'palace' he was talking about. We were going back to accompany Gon. He was looking weirdly protective over me, and I couldn't work out why. Sure, there were ants around, but I was also a Hunter and I knew how to take care of myself. "Ummm... Can you tell me a bit more about what's happening?" Suddenly, he stopped running, causing me to stop too. He gritted his teeth and let out a long sigh.

"Yeah, you deserve to know." He told me everything. From leaving NGL to train to their friend dying. I shook my head in shock when he finally stopped talking. "Yeah, and then I lost too much blood and the next thing I knew I was in the hospital." He said it as if it was nothing, which made me angry.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there." I whispered. "Killua, you don't need to be so strong all the time. Even if it is for Gon and I. It's okay to cry, you know." He lowered his head at this and bit his lip.

"I'm fine." I stopped walking abruptly and forced him to turn to face me.

"If there's one thing you're not right now it's fine!" His eyes widened slightly at my remark. "I saw it today! There's something you're scared of. Why don't you tell me what it is already?" I said.

"Okay..." Killua said, taking a deep breath. "Y/n, after all this is over... I'm leaving."

"Come again?" I said, frowning.

"I'm leaving Gon for good, and probably you too..." My eyes widened.

"No." I replied simply. "I'm not gonna leave your side now that I'm back on it." I took a step closer to him and touched his cheek gently. Looking down, I saw his fists were tightly clenched.

"Y/n..." His whole body was violently shaking, and he was breathing heavily. "I... I just want-" he paused mid sentence as I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. He kissed back almost immediately. We broke the kiss and after a brief moment, he smiled at me. But this felt like a real smile. I smiled back happily and we began running alongside each other once more.

"You still gonna leave me after that?" I teased, punching him lightly in the arm and laughing.

"Whatever." He mumbled, looking away with his cheeks tinted a light pink. "Be carful, okay? Keep your wits about you." I rolled my eyes and nodded, falling silent again.

"Oh yeah, so-" suddenly Killua pushed me behind a bush, landing on top of me and causing me to blush violently. He put his finger to his lips, gesturing for me to be quiet. I nodded, rolling my e/c eyes again at him. Suddenly, I heard a voice just a couple metres away from us, finally understanding why he pushed me into the bush. I listened carefully to what was happening outside, and then looked back up at Killua. He mouthed 'chimera ants' and I nodded again, my h/c hair sprawled all around me.

"This is a failure!" I heard one of them say. "We've barely gotten any food for the King." There was a brief moment of silence. I thought I heard sniffing.

"Hey, do you smell that?" Another voice said. Since I was underneath Killua I had no way of telling how close they are or how many there were. The footsteps stopped.

'Yeah. It's coming from over there." Killua squeezed my hand before jumping up from the bush. I stood up next to him. Luckily, there were only two and Killua must have surveyed the situation before we revealed ourselves. One of the ants resembled a penguin, and the other an armadillo. I'd never come face to face with them but Killua had given me a description of what they were like, so it wasn't a shock. I also knew they could use nen and they were pretty strong. I watched the penguin carefully as he smiled at me.

"Killua, I'll deal with the penguin. You deal with the armadillo, okay?"

"But-"

"Oi, don't you dare tell me to run." I said, smiling at him. "I can deal with him." He hesitated for a moment, but then nodded and we parted directions. I grinned at the penguin thing.

"Such a cute girl..." I heard him mumble under his breath. "It'll be a shame when I rip you to pieces." He lunged at me, and I quickly dodged. He was faster than I thought he'd be, and I doubted I'd be able to cut through his seemingly strong shell. Looking over, I saw Killua was very preoccupied. Taking a deep breath, I cleared my mind. What would be the best way of going about this?

Looking over, I saw a particularly large tree looming over us. Suddenly, I had an idea.

"You can rip me to pieces if you change catch me!" I taunted, running over and beginning to climb the tree, the penguin close behind. When I'd finally gotten to the tallest branch, I sat there and waited for him to reach me. I've always been a skilled climber- I was even faster with my nen. I saw Killua finish off the armadillo and then look up at me in alarm.

"Y/n? What are you doing? If you fall..."

"Yeah, that's why you're going to catch me!" I yelled back down at him. His face relaxed again when he realised what my plan was. I was glad he was quick. I felt the branch bend as the penguin stood on it. I smirked at him. "A little slow, are we?" I heard the branch begin to snap.

"Any last words?" He asked, walking down the branch towards me. I just grinned at him again.

"Nope." I let go of the branch just as it snapped and we both began falling. I felt Killua's arms tense as I fell into them bridal- style. Looking over, I saw my plan had worked. His shell was completely shattered, and he was dead. I leaned upwards and kissed Killua's cheek before jumping up.

"Jeez, don't scare me like that. I thought you were trying to commit suicide to kill him or something." He mumbled.

"Do you really think I'd do that?" I asked him, laughing lightly. He just glared at me.

"Y/n... What would have happened if the timing wasn't right? What if I wasn't there to catch you?" He asked, turning to face me.

"Killua..." I said, rolling my eyes at him and smiling. "You're always there to catch me." I responded, shrugging my shoulders and taking his hand. We carried on walking through the forest, towards our goal. I hoped with all my heart that we could stop the Chimera Ants.

Killua's POV:

But Y/n... One day I might not be here to stop you falling. Then what are we going to do?

A/N:
