I'd thought about Lucas' game the entire way home. I feel bad about not going, but I'm tired. When I got home, I took a really long nap thinking it'd help my head. It didn't though, I just feel worse now. I had another nightmare about Billy- same thing as always.
I had been listening to music on my radio to calm me down but when I woke up, it was on the news channel.
"After a tragic year for our town, the Tigers have brought home the conference title for the first time in twenty-two years." one voice says.
"And what a great game it was, Allen, ending with a dramatic buzzer-beater from benchwarmer Lucas Sinclair."
"He must be feeling on top of the world right-"
I quickly turn off the radio. Sometimes it seems as if everyone is winning at life but me, and there's nothing I can do about it. I play with my fingers until the dog I usually feed starts to bark.
"Alright, alright, I hear you," I sigh as I get up to grab him some food.
I walked into the living room where mom was blackout drunk again with the TV on in the background. Her cigarette was still lit a bit so I tapped it in the ashtray a couple of times to put it out before grabbing her alcohol cans and throwing them away.
I open the fridge, grabbing a plate of leftover meat, and made my way to the dog.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," I sigh as I reach the fence. "Here you go, good boy."
I take the meat and start feeding it to the dog before I hear a vehicle in the distance. I quickly whip my head around to see Eddie's van. What shocked me is the fact that Chrissy came out of it. It's game day, so she should be with her boyfriend. I mean, isn't that how it goes? That's what Lucas told me. I can't fathom why a drug dealer would be with a cheerleader.
I watch as he led Chrissy in before the dog barked, demanding more food.
I quickly turn back, "Okay, alright. One more, that's it though, right? Good boy."
I feed the dog one more piece of meat before turning back and going back into the house. I toss the plate in the trash and sit on the other end of the couch mom is on. I can't sleep, so I'll just watch TV.
The TV started to act up and I groan, "Ugh, come on."
I stood up and tried to fix the antenna but quickly lost my patience, resorting to repeatedly banging on the top before the lights started to flicker on and off. Only for a second though, then it stopped. I heard a scream and quickly make my way to the window.
I draw the curtains to see a terrified Eddie Munson running to his van, and Chrissy wasn't behind him. He started up the van and drove off really fast. I watched as he left. I don't know what to do in these types of situations, so I convince myself that whatever happened, it's none of my business. Maybe Jason found Eddie there with Chrissy and threatened to beat him up or something. I try not to think about it too much and change into pj's before going back into the living room with mom.
In the morning, I woke up to police sirens echoing through the trailer park. I quickly get up and go outside to see a bunch of police cars making their way to the trailer Eddie lives in. The police come to Eddie's a lot, but it's usually only one or two officers. What I thought was no big deal, was much bigger of a deal than I thought.
"Looks like that Munson boy's up to no good again," mom crosses her arms.
I look at her for a second and refocus my attention back on the cars, trying to figure out what happened. I can see the chief talking to Eddie's uncle, but I still can't see much from here, so I go down the stairs of the porch to get a closer look. I got close enough to where I could see the door and tilted my head to find Chrissy's disfigured dead body on the floor. All her bones are turned the wrong way and her jaw is so far open. There are dark purple veins at the end of each one of her joints. It looks like some shit from a horror movie, but a million times scarier.
