Hate at First Sight

Chapter 11

Alice's P.O.V

I stand frozen in the doorway. David comes up behind me and wraps an arm around my waist.
"You okay?" He murmurs in my ear.
I can't believe she had a crush on him. It never registered with me. Did he like her back. Did he just choose me because she didn't make it known that she wanted to be with him and I look like her? Does he like me?

I know she thinks I've set out to steal him but it's not like that. Sure in the past boys have not been something I've taken seriously and usually once I have one I decide I'd prefer another. But it's mainly because I have a fear of them leaving, of not being loved back. Lea wouldn't understand because she has had her normal life for as far back as she can remember. I was always blatantly aware that my parents had given me up. But I quite like David.

David is different. Good different though, to all the boys I'm used to and I really like him. But is that really what is sabotaging my relationship with my sister.
"If I ask you something will you be honest with me?" I ask him staring into his eyes, searching.
"Of course!"
"You and my sister? What's the story behind that? Tell me exactly what has happened between you two!"
He shrugs.
"There's nothing to tell!"
"Flirt much?" I ask not giving up.
"Never."
"Have you kissed her?"
He shakes his head.
"Nope. Honestly I've had nothing to do with your sister!"
I nod satisfied by his response, glad at least that he hadn't been playing me.

"She's walking! Think we could catch up?" I ask.
He nods and grabs my hand, pulling me along with him. We laugh as we run, racing to be the fastest and soon we see her on front of us, holding hands with the guy from earlier. Why did she make a big deal out of me cuddling David when she was clearly with him?

I rush up behind her and grab her wrist.
"I need to talk to you."
"Can't you take a hint?" She glares at me.
"Please leave her alone." The guy pleads.
"Sorry whoever you are." I say in full-on-bitch mode.
"But she's my sister and so whatever she is to you..." I continue, glancing pointedly at their hands, still intertwined "I think I have a right to speak to her!" David steps up beside me and crosses his arms.
"Let her speak."

"I'm sorry that you feel like I've been intruding, Lea, I really am! I don't mean to come and interfere with your life but you have to remember that you have the life that I was supposed to have too! I was sent off to live with Aunt Amy while you got the normal life and you've gotten to spend every day with the people who I've only spent weeks with! You've known all your life that your immediate family truly loves you! Me on the other hand? I haven't even know my immediate family!" I feel my lip quiver.
"All I've ever wanted was to be wanted."
