𝖣𝖺𝗍𝖾: 11/2022"Just one meet up is all I'm asking for." L held the phone to his ear in silence as Emmarie's request drifted into his ear. "Ba—" He abruptly ended the call and blocked the number, then proceeded to enter his therapist office.
"Hello Lawliet. I would say it's nice to see you... again",
Since their unexpected reunion, he has doubled his visits with Dr. Fern and now he was going to tell his therapist his reason why. "I've seen you a lot more these past few weeks that I have my own family." his therapist joked.L sighed. "Ik... She's back."
Dr. Fern quirked his brow. So L repeated, "She's back." Still he looked confused, so he just blurted out, "Her, Emmarie— my ex wife... I saw her again."
Now understanding, Dr. Fern locked in. He began asking him a thousand questions. L, being overstimulated by them, answered them as best as he could. He explained how everything went down, including his feelings and thoughts afterwards. He finished it off by saying, "I don't get it. Why did she choose now to reappear? I'm finally coming to terms with everything—our marriage and the divorce. I'm able to feel and think better about my self, so why?"
"That's what they do to us." Dr. Fern said.
L furrowed his brow, "What?"
"Our demons, that's what they do to us. After they've wreaked havoc on our lives, then we move on, they just reappear out of thin air. But you can't let them destroy you for a second time. You have to decide what you want to do moving forward after they've reappeared."
L rubbed his forehead in frustration. Dr. Fern chuckled, "I'm aware it's not easy and I won't make the decision for you. But I'll do my best to lead you into making the right one."
He sighed.
"I have reasons to believe you'll make the rig—"
"What if I don't? What if I do or say something that could set me back? Because it's not just me that this will effect but..." His voice trailed off.
"Y/n?", Dr. Fern said, causing a slight blush to appear on L's face. He's heard about quite a lot about her throughout their sessions. It was very obvious that there was something more going on between them, but his client never revealed or confirmed it. He only called it a friendship.
Dr. Fern came across many patients who were emotionally unavailable yet engaged in casual or repeated sexual acts with women. And the outcome of such relationships was always predictable.
"Does she know about your past?"
L aggressively shook his head.
"Why not?"
Apart from his therapist, he wasn't ready to tell anyone. He wasn't ready to go into details about the shit he endured for 10 years being tied down to Emmarie. He was embarrassed. He didn't need their pity. Plus, he promised himself it'll never happened again, so why should he tell her?
