Reena: I open my eyes to white light above me.
“Reena!”
“Reena!”
I turn towards the direction of the voices who are calling me.
“Mariella…? Alexia…?”
“Oh my God, Reena! You have no idea how worried we were when you and Edward went missing!” Mariella exclaims.
“WE figured that you fell into the river.” Alexia says. “When I and Mariella reached the other group, the teacher in-charge immediately contacted Vincent and the officials of the resort.”
“The president ordered a search party for the two of you the moment he heard about it.”
“Really?” I say. “By the way…how long were we gone?”
“You were missing for eight hours.” Alexia says.
Eight hours?? That long?
“How long was I asleep?” I ask. “How did I get here?”
“Ah yes…the rescue team said that you were both unconscious when they found you.” Mariella says.
“You’ve been sleeping for a whole day already. It’s already afternoon of the second day of the training camp.” Alexia informs me.
“I slept for that long?” I say in disbelief.
“They found you around midnight last night and you have been sleeping until now.” Mariella says. “They found you inside a cave and rushed you here in this hospital near the resort.”
“The doctors examined you from head to toe and found nothing wrong except your sprained ankle.” Alexia explains. “They said that the leaves that you put really helped with the swelling and he advised a week of rest for it to fully heal.”
“…I see.” I say. “How’s Edward?” He was burning with fever the last time we were together.
Mariella and Alexia look at each other.
“What happened to him? “ I say. “Tell me…”
“…we actually don’t know, Reena.” Mariella says.”
“What do you mean?”
“We don’t have any news yet. Nobody has informed us of his condition yet…” Alexia tells me.
What’s going on? How is Edward? What happened to him?
“It doesn’t matter.” I say. “I’ll see for myself. Can you help me go to his room? I just want to know his condition.”
The two of them exchange glances.
“Reena, the thing is…” Alexia says gently.
“What?”
“WE can’t.” she says. “He was rushed to a different hospital when the two of you were found.”
“I heard that he was about to be brought here as well, but the president said that he should be brought to a hospital in the capital instead.” Mariella says, looking confused. “He didn’t mention the hospital but he said something about a ‘family doctor’.”
Right. Edward mentioned that he always had been sick when he was a kid. Vincent must have wanted the same doctor who looked over his cousin before to treat him now. Of course that doctor knows Edward’s health far better than any doctor.
Naturally, I can’t just tell this to my friends.
“Maybe Anisse knows something.” I suggest. “Can you please try calling her?” I can’t stand not knowing his condition.
