Reena: What the heck is happening? After the announcement, Mariella just hurriedly grabs my hand and pulls me out of the library. We are walking very fast along the corridor towards the elevators when we saw that it was full of students.

“We have no choice.” She says. “We have to take the stairs.”

“What’s happening?” I ask. “Are there really terrorists inside the academy?”

“I also don’t know but it seems like.”

“What is Safety Protocol level 2?”

Around us students are filing out of their classrooms and making their way out of the building. I see several member of the Disciplinary Committee guiding and organizing them.

I stop running and Mariella looks back at me, her face red with running. “Answer my question, Mariella.” I demand.

She sighs. “I’m sorry.” She took a deep breath then started explaining in a hurried manner. I strained my ears to catch her words. “When there is a threat or emergency in this academy, emergency levels or rather precautionary measures are implemented and there are three levels of the Safety Protocol.”

She starts dragging me again and I let her. She starts explaining things while running.

“Safety Protocol level 1 means that classes are cancelled. Students are to be alert and cautious to their surroundings and the Disciplinary Committee is to implement order among the students and to avoid the spread of panic. The SDT are on stand-by, watching the situation.”

“What is the SDT?” I ask.

It takes a while before she answers my questions because she is catching her breath. We are already outside of our building. Mariella lead us to the back of the building so we would avoid the streams of students up front.

I suddenly notice some movement out of the corner of my eye. I quickly grab Mariella’s hand, forcing her to stop.

“We can’t stop here.” She frantically says, tugging at my arm.

“Ssshh.” I say then points at the clump of bushes. We see it move.

I see Mariella paling. I step in front of her.

“Who’s there?” I call out.

Then suddenly out of nowhere somebody jumps in front of me and try to knock me down. I can’t figure out where he came from and it is definitely not from the clump of bushes.

I hear Mariella shout. The man pins me to the ground then starts reaching from the inside of his jacket then I see him pulling out a gun.

I kick him hard in the groin and he recoils with a shout of pain. I don’t have the intention of letting him recover so I send him flying to the wall. I hear the loud thud when he slips down the wall.

“Is that all you’ve got?” I smirk at him. “And you call yourselves terrorists? Even a 10-year old can take any of you down.”

I hear a bang from somewhere then I feel a sudden pain in my left arm. I look to my left and see another of his companions with his gun pointing at me.

“Reena! Oh God, you’ve been shot!”

“Stay there! Don’t move!” I shout urgently back at her. “Run and find some help!”

“I will not leave you here!”

I turn away from her and face the man.  “What’s wrong with you, mister? I think you missed to aim at my head.”

“Don’t be so cocky, girl. It was my intention to miss that head of yours…my next shot will be aimed directly in that arrogant face of yours.”
