Reena: What is Edward thinking? I suspected that he will send me away but why does he suddenly lets me come with them in touring the school? And what’s with this Kyle Rome? He already acts like we are close friends.

“The main building we’ve been through houses the administrative offices and departments and also the club rooms. By the way, it is compulsory for all the students to join a club. Club hours starts at 4pm in the afternoon.” Edward explains. “I advise you also to read the handbook very well and remember all the school rules written there.”

Kyle browses it over.

“Two hundred rules! Wow! That’s really a lot.” He says.

“That was also my initial reaction.” I mumble but I don’t intend it to be heard.

“Really?” Kyle says. “Well I agree too. Isn’t it too much?” he asks Edward.

“School rules exists to guide and discipline the students. If there isn’t enough, people will always find loopholes in order for them to escape punishment.” Edward answers.

“You sure are uptight, Edward. “ Kyle says. “As expected from the vice president...”

Edward just shrugs and continues with the tour. We reach the greenhouses and the scent of flowers envelopes us.

“Philanter Academy is really a very beautiful school and not only that...its elegance fits my taste. I often hear about it when I was still studying in my home country.”

“So you are not originally from here, Kyle?” I ask curiously.

“Nope. I am from Greenwell. It’s a neutral country.” He says.

“Isn’t that by the south of Veriandien?” I ask.

“Yup, but I assure you that it is still a neutral country.” He says.

“So what made you decide to transfer here?” I ask.

“Because I like to learn many things...I am interested in various cultures of nations and their traditions and of course...the lives of other people.” He says. “I also like to do my own research on them. This academy caught my interest ever since I was a child but it was still impossible for me to go here before.”

“Why?”

“Well...family issues.” He says. He starts walking out of the greenhouse and me and Edward follow.

“Over there is the boy’s dormitory.” Edward points.

“I see...” he says.

I haven’t been in that part before. But from we are standing, I can see a bit of the lake. In front of us is a wide plain of grass and a few scattered apple trees. Up above, gray clouds are still gathering. The rain might fall any minute or after an hour or so.

“One more thing that interests me here is that the students practically run this school.” Kyle says.

There is something in his expression that I can’t identify. His mind seems to be working on something.

“The student council has more authority than the school principal.” Kyle continues. “This school has really different arrangements.”

“Yes indeed.” Edward answers. “It has been like this ever since this school was established.”

“So if a student is caught doing a wrongdoing, he should be more afraid instead of being expelled by the president of the student council than of the principal’s.” Kyle says. “Your job must be very difficult.”
