Reena: “Don’t you have any elevators here?”
“I’m sorry for not informing you right away but climbing the grand staircase is a tradition to every new student in this academy. We have elevators in all the floors for the students’ convenience.”
I sigh. I approve of his appearance but not his competence. He is my guide right? He should give proper introduction to new students like me.
“I apologize again. I just have a lot of things in my mind.” He says. “I’ll lead you to the principal’s office. It is here in the first floor.”
I don’t have any obvious choice so I follow him.
“I’m sure that you will like it here and I’m definite that you will be able to catch up with the lessons. This is the last day of the summer vacation and classes will start tomorrow.”
I doubt that since I’m bad with my studies but I can’t tell him that. No way. I don’t want him laughing at me behind my back.
“Anyway, why are you the one who came to meet me?” I ask.
He turns to look at me with a puzzled look on his face. “Is there something wrong with that?”
I stare at him for a full ten seconds with an incredible look on my face. Is he serious?
“I expected that the principal himself will be the one guiding me here.” I answer.
He gives me too an incredible look for a full ten seconds then bursts into laughter.
“What’s funny?”
“I-I’m s-s-sor-ry.” He can hardly talk for because of laughter. I feel offended then I cross my arms and he is able to pick up what I mean. “I apologize for laughing at you.”
I continue staring at him and I show that I am totally annoyed with what he did. We continue walking and he doesn’t even explain what he did earlier and it made me more irritated. I start pouting while we are walking and even the elegant design of the walls and the green house outside cannot distract me.
“Why, are you expecting that the principal himself would come to greet you?” he asks.
I want to punch him in the face already. “Don’t you know who I am?”
“Of course I do.”
“Then you understand what I mean.”
“I’m sorry I don’t. Can you explain?”
“Are you being serious? You don’t really know anything about me, don’t you?” I can’t stop myself from raising my voice. I just can’t take it anymore. “Do you know who I am?”
“You are Reena Brightnott, right?” he says.
I sigh. “You know my name but you don’t understand what it means?”
He looks confused.
“I am from the Brightnott family, one of the houses that founded Wistcoastia. My father is the general of the armies and our family crest is hanging over there in the banisters. Do you still not understand? I am a member of one of the duke houses and someone like you comes to meet me and not even the principal? And not even a proper introduction? My God!”
I’m breathing heavily because I didn’t stop at every sentence.
“So that’s what you were thinking.” He says. “I’m sorry for your disappointment but that’s not the way things are done here. So what if you came from the prestigious Brightnott family? You are just an ordinary student here. You came here to study and not to boast about your status and rank in society and while you are here, you must abide our rules and regulations.”
