Reena: I didn’t want to actually come home here yet but I have no choice since this is what my father wants. It has already been eight years since I was last here. I have always been training in Lidora all the time.

My country of Wistcoastia is in the eastern side of the world. It is a strong and powerful country but unlike Lidora it is not that peaceful and I can say that war can break anytime, anywhere.

As far as I can remember in my History lessons, it was the ten dukes that founded this country hundreds of years ago. They were a group of friends and comrade in-arms that answered the pleas from the people to defeat their ruthless rulers. They were able to drive them away with their power and since then, they settled in that land and named it, Wistcoastia. Meanwhile, the people they defeated can’t just accept their loss that easily. They plotted many times against the ten dukes but were unsuccessful but they vowed that a day will come when they will make them meet their demise. They left the lands of Wistcoastia and went to the western side of the world and established their own country there. Today it is known as the country of Veriandien.

The disputes between the two countries have continued up to this day and that is the main reason why there hasn’t been any peace at all. Other nations have also started taking sides. My father always said that we should always be prepared for a full scale world war. I agreed with him at that point since I have seen that our country is slowly weakening because of the betrayal of the other five duke houses.

I can still remember that time. It was like a nightmare. I could still see in my mind clearly what occurred during those times. It was probably the worst tragedy that Wistcoastia encountered.

A lot of civil wars erupted here and there and because of that I was sent to Lidora for my safety while the rest of my family stayed here to fight. That was also the time when I decided to become strong… stronger…so that I can help my brothers and then my father in able to stop the war and to be of use.

While I was in Lidora, I heard news that the royal family has been exerting tremendous effort to keep the country stable despite its current situation. Everyone was still in shock because of the betrayal especially the royal family of Montevierrie for they have betrayed their trust that started hundreds of years ago.

The remaining four dukes did what they can to make the country survive but they were still unable to lessen the deaths that happened every day.

The traitor dukes fled to Veriandien and declared themselves as allies for a common cause of defeating Wistcoastia.

“…Miss? Miss?”

I snap out of my thoughts and realize that the driver is calling for my attention.

“What is it?” I ask.

“We are now entering Vierra, my lady.” He says.

I nod. So we have finally reached the capital. I sigh. This reminded me of my argument with father. He wants me to stop training for a while and attend a normal school like everyone my age. I didn’t want to and said that I’m alright with being home-schooled but he disagreed and lectured me on the importance of studying in a school and blah…Blah…blah… I think you already know what followed.

Our car drive past through the heart of the capital and from time to time, we experience heavy traffic and I use that to observe. Vierra is a very well-known capital in the whole world from its beauty, fast-paced lifestyle and its being a center of business and trade. I stare at the tall buildings as we drive by. I have never seen tall buildings like those when I was still in Lidora.

The school that I will be attending is a famous school that is as old as this country and many people who graduated there have been very successful in their career and field. It is called Philanter Academy for Elites named after its founder Duke Philippe Philanter, one of the ten dukes.

One thing that I’m only excited about is that I will be staying in a dormitory. This is my chance to become independent and become free. I don’t really care about school I’m only doing this because this is what my father wants. I prefer honing my combat skills over reading a book.

I have come from a family of soldiers. My father is currently the commander in-chief of His Majesty’s armies and he also holds the rank of a duke. Every member of our family knows how to fight and we all have our own specialty. For example, I love using two katanas when fighting. I even brought then here with me. I know that it is against school rules to bring dangerous weapons in class but there’s nothing they can do with what I want because I’m from the Brightnott family. I can easily use my family’s influence there. My life in school will be easy.

“My lady, we have arrived…”

I didn’t notice anything again since I was wrapped with my own thoughts. I wait for the driver to open the door for me then I grab my weapons and sling them on my back in a cross-like fashion.

I look at the building before me and I am lost for words. It is the biggest school that I have ever seen. Its tall marble columns and the delicate details of the architecture is beyond words that I am rooted on the spot.

“This is really a school for elites. Everywhere is looking elegant.” I say as I observe the garden, the stone path by the side of the building.

The double doors in front of me open and then I see a guy coming to meet me. He is wearing a uniform—a matching black coat with gray lining and silver buttons and pants then a silver neck tie. His hair is smooth and his stance is like a gentleman’s. I approve of him. He is also very good-looking.

“Good afternoon. You must be Miss Reena of the Brightnott family.” He says in a steady, cool tone. “I am Edward Sanders, the vice-president of Philanter Academy’s student council.”

“Thank you for meeting me here. My name is Reena Brightnott.”

He nods. “Please follow me to the principal’s office.”

I follow him inside. I’m happy that I am not disappointed when I entered because the interiors are just as great like it is on the outside.

We start climbing a grand staircase that is in the middle of the hall and I see hanging in the banisters are five banners bearing the crests of the royal family and the remaining four duke houses: Brightnott, Xaltaire, Vandale and Philanter.
