Part Thirty-Three

~Riley's P.O.V.~

We got back to the house and I helped Mae unsaddle her horse as she held the puppy. We decided to call him Max. She set him on the ground and he quickly went over the small pond in the yard to drink water. I set the saddle down and watched Mae playing with him, I reached in my pocket and looked at the ring in the box then back at her. She never got to experience marriage but I wanted to give her the closest thing to it. I wanted to make her happy and give her the things she was unable to have because of the outbreak. She deserves the best and she will get nothing less than that. I closed the box and looked back up I didn't see Mae and Max. I looked around, where are they? Then down the road I could see him running from her and she was chasing him. I ran out of the yard and chased after her. They ran into a yard and I saw Max slip through an open door of an abandoned house. Mae flung open the door and ran in. I finally made it to the yard and heard a gunshot go off inside. My adrenaline built up, "Mae?!" I ran inside the house, and found her inside. I couldn't believe what I was seeing..
