Once Bitten

Part Thirty-Nine

~Mae's P.O.V.~

I had to stay in the hospital bed for about two weeks. Till my wound healed and the pain stopped. Riley was by my side everyday and would tell me about how wonderful it is outside of my room. It almost sounded too good to be true. The days came when I was actually able to stand up and move around, I couldn't go far but it was nice doing things on my own again, well with the assistance of Riley. He'd hold my hand as we would walk around. When I saw kids run by chasing each other, playing, it brought me joy this place is our safe haven. There really was a little light in all of this darkness. I smiled at Riley and he grinned back, "how are you feeling?" I threw my arms around him. "I feel better than ever." The wound was healed over and the surrounding area only felt like a bruise. "Show me our new home." He had a big smile on his face. We walked back down the hallway and into a medium sized room. I saw our bed, the walls were painted black and red, just like home. I sat on the bed and looked up at him. "It's perfect." He put his hands on my cheeks and kissed my lips then slouched down to his knees placing his hands on my thighs not breaking eye contact. "I love you Mae." "I love you too Riley." He pulled his hands away and reached into his pocket pulling out something which I couldn't see since it fit perfectly in the palm of his hand. He raised himself just enough to prop himself on one knee. "What are u doing Riley?" He held my hand in the palm of his. He was biting down on his bottom lip looking as if he were trying to hide a smile. He then opened his other hand, when I saw it my heart raced and my eyes started to water up. "Mae.. you are the most amazing woman I have ever met. I would do anything just to see your smile. Being with you makes my life perfect, you're perfect. Maybe I should just cut straight to it. Mae, will you marry me?"
