We got back to camp and I settled Jubilea down in Red's tent for now, he was already done with building it up fully. Red looked surprised before noticing the incubus' state and throwing me a questioning glance. I nodded and he called Hero over, who was preparing the fireplace since he'd cook, grabbing the medkit. He heard and came over, the bell on his collar softly jingling. Nightmare tossed Xander harshly against a tree and grabbed a rope, tying him to it so we could still see him, but he couldn't escape. By now the others have noticed that something happened, and Jura came over to me. "They were supposed to get fire wood, what the hell happened?", he asked, confused and worried at the same time. I let out a small huff, signaling I was still pissed at Xander. "They were supposed to get firewood, but all that Jubilea got is raped!", I replied, much sharper than I intended. Jura didn't flinch tho. He was aware how pissed I could be, especially at someone like Xander, who only brought us trouble in the past. Jura patted my shoulder. "I'll go try and find wood with Centi. Sit down near the fireplace or help calm down Jubilea, but don't get near Xander. We don't need a corpse.", he told me and left. I let out a soft sigh and went to Jubilea, sitting down with them. He leaned against me, panting a bit. Red had his tail in his hands, placing a hand on his lower back, where the tail connected to his spine. "This will hurt, Jub.", he mumbled, hesitating a lot. Hero watched before frowning when Red didn't do it for multiple seconds. "Uh, you gonna do it or no?", he asked. Red hesitated before letting out a sigh. "Not really, I can't hurt him...", he mumbled and let go. Hero eyed him before shrugging and taking his place, taking the tail. "Think fast, Jubilea.", he said and pulled at the exact same time. Jubilea let out probably the loudest, uncontrolled scream in his life, I was sure the entire forest heard that. Hero had pulled the tail back enough so he could move the bone back into the skin, at the same time fixing the heavy bent in the bones. He let got and got a bandage, tightly wrapping it around the wound. Jub nearly went unconscious, panting heavily and crying in pain. I couldn't judge him, this looked agonizing. So I pulled him close, allowing him to hide his face in my chest, pretty quickly soaking my shirt. I didn't complain, as long as I could calm him down at one point. He needed a long time until he slowly breathed out, calmer. "Is it better now?", Hero asked. Jub slowly nodded. "Y-Yeah..." "Good, tho you shouldn't use it for a few days, it's stabilized right now.", Red added. Hero got up and went to the fireplace as Jura and Centi returned, plopping wood into the stone ring. He sat down and lit it with his magic, heating the fire up until he could comfortably cook. I watched as he went to his bag and got out his own box and a second one, opening latter once he was back at his spot. "Jay, can you gimme the metal pot you have in your bag?", he asked, getting the seasoning as well. I nodded and went to my bag, getting the pot. "Oh, and some clean pinecones please!", he added. I frowned slightly, but did as he told me, gathering 5 of those pinecones. Then I returned to him. Hero washed the pinecones with some water and put them on some rocks next to the fire, having used his knife to cut up our meat and some veggies. He also added some safe berries, having mashed some to make a paste. Minutes later the meat and vegetables were in the pot with the berries, cooking nice and slow. Hero kept stirring every once in a while as a delicious smell filled the air. Centi almost drooled, hungry. I could see that Red, sitting alongside his husband of course, was incredibly hungry, biting his lip. He was cuddling Hero from behind, playing a bit with the bell attached to his collar. Hero took the pinecones and put them into the pot on the edge, pouring some water in. I raised an eyebrow. "Why do you put pinecones in there?", I asked. Hero looked over to me and smiled. "Aroma, mostly. Pinecones have a very strong taste, but it's very yummy. Look." He took one of the pinecones and broke a piece off, handing it to me. "Chew on it, but try not to swallow it.", he explained. I took it and put it in my mouth, chewing. It did indeed have a very strong taste, but I didn't mind. It tasted the way that a freshly cut pine tree smells. Like forest. I hummed and sat down with him, spitting the wood out. "Hm, it's good!", I claimed, pulling my knees up to my chest. Hero seemed happy with that, continuing to stir for a while. I watched him, tilting my head. "You'd make a good chef.", I complimented. He hummed softly. "I like baking more, personally. But I'm glad you hope it tastes good.", he replied before yawning a bit. I noticed and frowned. "Are you okay, Hero?", I asked. He nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. The work drained me a bit, same as the stress. But as long as we find the old guy, I'm ready to do everything.", he assured me. I hesitated a bit. "Don't go too far over the line, Hero. I don't want you to burn out.", I warned him softly. Hero giggled, running a hand over his face before looking at me, still quite a bit insane, but staying calm. "Jay, I won't burn out too fast.", he whispered. It was quite a bit creepy, but I was used to that from him. So I ruffled his hair softly, doing the same to Reddie, who happily blepped at me. Here soon called everyone over for dinner. They got their equipment for eating and Hero distributed the food, making sure to not accidentally hand out the pinecones. I got a bit interested at his own box, but didn't say much, already expecting what was inside. He sat down and got his own portion. "Alright, hope you'll enjoy it.", he exclaimed. I smiled and got my spoon, taking a bite of our dinner. My heart nearly dropped into my pants, a heavy silence filled the air while everyone took their first bite.
