I watched nervously as Absentia dug through the debris, his hind legs keeping him mostly steady on the uneven ground. It seemed to be a difficult task, he struggled keeping himself balanced. No wonder, the rubble constantly broke away under his weight. Mitchell wasn't there to help sadly, so he was basically alone. I doubt that our help was useful, considering he got the big pieces away and we removed the smaller ones. Even with Jub using his magic the progress was agonizingly slow. The hill eventually started to crumble enough for Absentia to open us a rather big path inside, so Hollow and Bellatrix went inside, both for protection, and because they knew proper protocol for injured victims, which most of us either didn't or only knew old pieces. Nightmare for example. Despite having gone through the necessary training due to his years as Jubilea's guard and partner, he had the knowledge. But it's a couple hundred years old, so most likely fully outdated. Bellatrix and Hollow however are soldiers that are currently still working as soldiers. The two disappeared on the inside and I nervously waited. The pressure of the air was getting much heavier than I hoped for. Who knows if alive people are even supposed to be here? I hugged myself nervously, trying to prevent myself from knotting my fingers by fiddling with them so much. Red gently rubbed over my back to quietly calm me down. He was aware that this was a nerve-racking situation for me. Letting a dead husband isn't exactly calming after all. The group came back out. Hollow was carrying a reaper, most likely Henory. And Bellatrix was leading a ghost out of the hill. My breath hitched a bit. He looked so much worse than I expected. Hero made it seem pretty tame, but he was messed up... His arms were heavily scratched up, around his neck was still the rope which he used to... I bit my lip a bit, still unable to mention it. Notch paused too, not exactly expecting me to be here. He eyed me quietly, trying to figure out if this was a bad joke or not, and if I'm real or not. Needing a few moments, he helplessly lowered his shoulders. "Why are you here and not with Evander...?" I hesitated, growing more and more nervous. "Because I want to be here with you, Notch." "Even tho I constantly bring problems and piss you off? Because I always bring you and Cody into danger?" I let out a nervous sigh. "Hunny, I'm here because of you. I made a massive mistake and I learned it the hard way. I'm a moron that doesn't deserve forgiveness, what I did was fucked up, but I deeply regret it. I regret hurting you the way I did, regret the way I acted around you... I'm sorry...", I said, lowering my head. Notchs' eyes went over my form, surprised. "You don't hate me?", he asked quietly. I looked at him, caught off guard. "Of course I don't! I hate myself for being an asshole towards you, but I don't hate you! I'd never dare that!", I replied, a bit louder than I wanted. Notch flinched slightly, teared up. Eventually he looked away. "It felt like it, you know? Like you hated me for everything that happened since we met.", he whispered. I rubbed my head weakly. "I overreacted... I didn't mean to make you feel that way, Notch... Love..." "Promise...?" That question was asked in a manner that made me shiver in fear. It was asked like it came from a child, innocent and scared. Like asking if the monster under your bed exists, or if Santa is real. His voice sounded much more innocent than I ever expected... I could only nod slowly, unable to get a word over my lips. My breath had stopped, everything felt like it was going in slow motion. Notch hid his face in his hands, tears were running down his cheeks. He looked so broken, so exhausted. More or less subconsciously I went to him and pulled his cold, ghastly body closely against mine. He curled up in my arms, sobbing uncontrollably. I petted his head, rubbing my fingers through his dull hair. I didn't want to let go again. Never. It's the least I can do for him after hurting him like this. Notch clung to me, panting weakly. He tried to find out if this was just a cruel dream or the truth, trying to find my heartbeat and hear it. After a while he found it and pressed his ear against my chest, listening. I watched softly, keeping my hand on his back. I felt how he slowly gave in beneath my fingers, letting out a breath he had held since he started searching. He seemed content that he found it, staring at something I couldn't see while listening to the calm beats. They took care of Henory while I cuddled Notchy. It's not like I could help anyway, plus I wanted to hold close what I lost so long ago. We had a lot of catching up to do after all. Notch softly sniffed, letting out a sigh. "How do we make you human again, hun?", I asked gently. Notch glanced at me before standing up a bit. "Henory can turn me back into one. We talked a bit while I took care of him. All we need is a vessel, but we can find one easily." I slowly nodded and held him a bit closer. "That's good. I missed you... A lot...", I mumbled. He hummed weakly. "No more secrets.", he mumbled. I nodded softly. "No more secrets." "Including backstory." I paused. "You... want to hear about my past?", I asked him surprised. Notch looked at me, deadpanned. "I asked that like 2 years ago. But you said no." A bit hesitant I eyed him before sighing and nodding. "Fine... I'll tell you my story at home, alright?" "Pinkie promise?", he asked, holding up his pinky finger. I wrapped my pinkie around his before pulling him into a quick kiss. He yelped and froze up, but eventually relaxed. With my free hand I wiped away his tears, entwining my fingers with his. He weakly squeezed my fingers, deepening the kiss. I felt really happy like that, softly holding him close. Finally, I had my Notchy back. Even tho now came two really hard assignments for me.
