Rubbing his eyes, Changkyun was caught off-guard as he noticed Hyebin in the distance. To be completely honest, it was less Hyebin that he was surprised to see, finding the presence of the woman beside her much more worrying.
He'd recognized her from his last fan meeting. She was one of his fans. Seeing her by Hyebin was unsettling. He couldn't hold himself back from thinking of something bad, just as he'd cancelled their date before after one too many incidents, this too felt like too much of a coincidence.
Yeah, he felt bad about being suspicious but just to make sure, he'd decided to trail behind them secretly, wondering what could have brought together such a pair. As nice as the woman had seemed at the fan meet, he still couldn't brush off the feeling. It was like a gut instinct, one that he only felt when he knew something was wrong.
Once the two had parted ways, Changkyun accidentally overheard a call between the woman and another person. Though there was little context, he didn't need to hear the other side of the conversation to understand what was happening. These days his sasaengs had been becoming a bit too bold so he'd had to put them in place, scolding them for calling him or attempting to show up at the dorms. It was a bit more difficult this time though as he couldn't risk involving Hyebin.
Finally settling on how he'd handle the situation, he hurried over, attempting to remain cool and collected even though he was seething with anger. Involving not only him but his family now... It was getting out of hand.
"Hey, aren't you the one from last time?" Changkyun called out, gaining her attention as she turned to look at him with widened eyes.
Seeing her up close, his fake smile dropped as he realised he'd seen her recently. He'd seen her at the restaurant. When Hyebin had ran to the bathroom that night, he'd watched her since it was rather abrupt and she seemed a little paler than usual as if she was sick. A few seconds after she'd gone in, a redhead followed and had ran out a few minutes later looking suspicious, glancing behind every few seconds.
It was her.
"Oh my- You remember me?" She seemed speechless, which she would be since she was most likely starstruck.
"Of course," he scoffed, wanting to get rid of the false acting between the pair immediately. "You're acting suspicious."
"Huh?"
"Look I don't want to overstep but something feels off." Changkyun decided to confront her, wanting to know her true intentions. "I'd think it was all a big coincidence if you hadn't been at the restaurant."
"What d-"
"Please don't lie to me." He raised an eyebrow. "What's your name?"
"H-Haewon." She gulped. She could feel herself cracking from the pressure already. It was how she'd gotten into this whole fiasco in the first place. When it came to peer pressure, she was susceptible to anything.
"Listen Haewon," Changkyun sighed. "If you truly know nothing, then I apologise but if you're involved, it's not going to end well. You're a fan of mine right? So I'm sure you know how I am with sasaengs. I won't sit back and take it like others."
"Mhm," Haewon nodded, her eyes flickering around nervously. She was going to blurt- "I'm sorry! I really didn't want to do this, I just wanted to know more about you guys but they were nice to me and I kept doing things to gain favour with them because I'm not that popular at school... or at least I wasn't till I got involved with them."
"You're a student?" His eyes widened as he realised he'd been confronting a high schooler. Now he felt bad. She was practically still a kid, one who fell in with the wrong crowd.
Haewon nodded. "They would tell me things about the members and I'd use the information to gossip with the other students. I just wanted someone to talk to and hang out with. I didn't think they'd go to such extremes with the whole fake pregnancy test scare and the food poisoning-"
"Wait, what food poisoning?" He frowned, repeating the last sentence in his head over and over.
"They poisoned the food she ate the day before so she'd be sick and then we could plant the test..."
"It was fake..." He trailed off as his thoughts took over. This wasn't good news but it wasn't bad news either.
He hadn't expected to be this disappointed by the news. It was good because it meant they were no longer in a difficult position, wondering what to do. He wasn't a father...
"Yeah, I'm sorry." Haewon apologised again, her hands visibly shaking. "I'l tell you everything they have planned. Hyebin unnie was really nice to me from the start. Seeing you guys together, you're really cute and I think she's perfect for you. I've been feeling really bad about hurting her from the start. Please give me a chance to make it up to you guys..."
Contemplating it momentarily, he decided that it would be better to have her on his side than to not and he honestly hoped she was telling the truth. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, he nodded in agreement.
"Let's go to a cafe." He offered. "We can sit down and you can tell me everything properly."
"Okay," she agreed.
"And promise not to tell anyone about us." He added on, wanting to make sure nothing bad would come of her knowing. "If you keep it a secret, I'll get you tickets to our world tour concert in Seoul."
"Really?" She gasped. "I won't tell anyone anyway. I promise!"
Whether she was telling the truth or not, Changkyun wanted to believe she was. He still believed that things would work out well, that eventually, him and Hyebin would be able to be together without a worry. Though he preferred to keep things private when it came to his private life, as a celebrity he knew that eventually his dating life would come to the public's attention. All he could hope for was that they'd be able to accept it... accept that he'd found someone he wanted to spend his life with.
