"So Miss Hill, why do you want to work here?"

Maria rolled her eyes. "Tony, you know why I'm here."

He leant back in his chair, dropping the professional act. "Doesn't mean I don't want to hear you say it."

"Are you going to hire me or not?"

"I've gotta hand you off to HR first to take a polygraph test, need to know you are who you say you are." Tony raised his hands as her gaze became sharper. "Not my idea, company policy."

"Fine," She crossed her arms, excepting it.

"Y/N will come and show you the way."

"Y/N? Have you got another assistant?"

"No, he's the head of HR. So he's more like my wrangler."

Right on cue, the office door opened, "I'm not just your wrangler, Tony." Y/N announced as he stepped in, "You're not the only person in this building."

"I know, I know, you've got a whole building of children to watch." He sat back up and pretended to look busy with some papers he'd probably never read, "Now off you pop, I have important boss business to deal with."

Maria and Y/N met because she desperately needed Stark Industry's lawyers to protect her from prison. It's possible she could have avoided it, but the chances were low. Also, having that kind of protection is comforting.

After what happened at the Triskelion, Maria needed a job. SHIELD payed well but it wouldn't last her forever. Working for such a powerful organisation like SHIELD being controlled by Hydra does not look good on a resume, so Stark Industries was her only option.

It's a funny thing life. How one decision can change everything. Maria didn't have to choose Stark Industries, she didn't have to go in on the day she did. If she had just taken a few more days for herself, she wouldn't have met Y/N for weeks. Her whole life could have been different.

Y/N was a Stark Industries board member and often worked with Tony Stark, but he rarely met any of Tony's colleagues or friends. If Maria didn't care so much about global security then they never would've met.

So maybe it was fate, or Tony's meddling, that brought these two together.

Tony was pleased when they started dating, but not surprised. Maybe he should add match maker to his list of talents.

And a year later, he was even more pleased when they announced their engagement. Match maker was definitely going on that list.

He of course pitched in with the wedding. Hiring the best decorators and caterers he could find. No matter how much they tried to turn him down, he just wouldn't listen.

They only had to pay for half the wedding in the end and it was perfect. There were no calls about security threats or alien attacks and not a single person got so wasted they couldn't walk.

And to top it all off, his wedding present was a lakeside cabin in upstate New York. Being friends with your billionaire boss certainly had it's perks.

The place was away from the public, completely serene. Tony also ensured it was equipped with everything they needed to work from home, if that's what they wanted.

"Stop right there Mrs L/N. I can't just let you walk into our new home." He hooked his arms ender her knees and lifted her up. Once they were inside, he ran back out to start grabbing some bags.

Turning back around, he noticed she had disappeared. The cabin didn't have too many rooms, so it didn't take him long to find Maria stood in the doorway of one. "So what do you think?"

She turned, putting her arms around his neck. "I think this room would be perfect to raise our kid in.

"Wait, are you-"

"I am."

Y/N wrapped his arms around her waist. He pick her up and spun around, letting out a joyful laugh as he did so.
