The blazing sun shined in their eyes, practically blinding them with its intensity. Squeezing their eyes shut, they hoped if they thought hard enough it would move over the horizon. But that was their sister's job, and they had a feeling she was doing this deliberately.

Y/N let out a sigh of relief as a shadow blocked most of the light, they reopened their eyes. Towering over them was a group of women carrying spears. They stepped aside, allowing a figure with little pointed ears through. Y/N had never seen a creature like that, until his head dissolved into that of a man. A very handsome man, they assumed. From what they knew about humans and mating rituals, he appeared to be the optimal partner. He had a friendly smile as he crouched beside them.

Y/N finally sat up, rubbing over a painful lump on the back of their head. He introduced himself as T'Challa and they responded with their own name, making him smile more. He stood back up, leaving them sat there. His warriors wanted to know if Y/N was a threat and why they were there. “My siblings banished me. They threw me from the sky for becoming too interested in you humans.” His eyes widened slightly as Y/N realised he had spoken in a different language to his warriors. “I have the ability to understand and be understood in every language, no matter what I speak. It's like reading minds.”

It was the gift their ancestors gave them. Not quite as impressive as others –or so their siblings would say– but they wouldn't wish for anything else. Especially since it made interacting with the humans easier.

Everyone was sceptical of Y/N first (who wouldn't be they literally appeared out of nowhere). However after the first few months everyone had at least warmed up. They even made friends with some of the palace staff, a few other citizens and those closest to T'Challa. Shuri introduced them to all things internet and the occasional prank on her brother. This was the relationship he was most conflicted about. Of course T’Challa was happy about then getting along, but having his reaction time tested every few days wasn't always fun. But once Y/N could actually access the internet themself and spent their days reading or working on the job he had given them, he found himself missing the jump scares. Everything had finally settled, but something was missing.

It had been a while since they had done anything together, and Y/N missed him. They approached him, thinking they would just go on a walk through the market again, but instead he took them to see the most spectacular view in Wakanda. They would have been content marvelling at the statue above them, until they looked ahead. Mount Bashenga offered a sight somehow even more spectacular than any other in the world of gods they had come from. They admired the red of the evening sky reflecting off the metal city.

“Wakanda has evolved far beyond anyone else in the human race. It's brilliant. You're brilliant.”

T'Challa froze as their eyes met. Y/N’s shinned and almost unnatural colour, which only added to their ethereal appearance. He couldn't move, he couldn't think. He didn't know what to do.

Luckily Y/N did. Having only been on Earth for a short time had it's perks. Not yet understand certain situational embarrassment for example. They kissed him quick, and his blank expression became one of shock. “I was warned you would freeze.”
