A shadow loomed over Y/N as they tried to follow the pre-drawn lines on their pumpkin. It was Vision. He lingered for a moment, simply watching them work. "Why do people carve pumpkins?"

They pat the ground next to them. "To ward of spirits so they don't enter your house."

"But why pumpkins?"

"Well, originally they built bonfires, then they carved turnips but after coming to America people started using pumpkins because they're easier to carve and grow faster."

"Do they work?" Vision could find all this information in less than a second from more reliable sources (which he did as soon as he saw Y/N) but he wanted to hear it from then. He could read their micro expressions that it made them happy when he asked about their interests.

"From what I've seen? No. Now they're just used as decorations so trick or treaters know where to go."

"Then why do you carve them? Trick or treaters don't come here." This was something he didn't know. Over the last week he had noticed halloween decorations appearing in the Avenger-only communal areas of the compound. It wasn't until the day before that he saw them carrying a box of rubber bats into the kitchen.

"Because it's tradition. I always carve pumpkins. I have spare, do you want to join me?" Before he could respond, Y/N dropped a pumpkin onto his lap and pointed out which tool was for scooping and which was for carving.

A few hours and many pumpkin scrap frights later, both of them had finished carving. It could of course have taken vision significantly less time, but he slowed his pace so he could spend this time with Y/N.

"Reveal your pumpkin in three, two, one," They turned their pumpkins and Y/N was met with Vision's staring back at them. "Why did you chose that?"

"The most popular jack-o'-lantern design with 105,668 Pinterest saves is an “I see you” pumpkin, which means creatively carving out your pumpkin to resemble a giant eyeball."

"Get that from google?"

"...Yes."

"You did a great job, Vision. Despite the unimaginative design, it's really detailed. I'm impressed."

"There you are, Y/N. I need an expert decorator to help with my party." Tony's voice came through a speaker somewhere behind them, interrupting their moment.

"Duty calls, Vis. Why don't I take your pumpkin and I can display it for the guests to see?"

"Excuse me, gentlemen, have you seen Y/N?" Vision approached Steve and Sam, who where stood near the entrance to the room. They were the most likely to know who left when.

"We haven't seen them since the party started.

"They came for the praise and vanished."

But neither of them knew so he had to continue his search. Vision spent nearly fifteen minutes wandering around, until Wanda was kind enough to direct him to a hidden door to outside.

As it shut behind him almost all sound from inside disappeared. And there they lay, looking at the starts above. "I like the compound. The stars were barely visible at the tower."

"Is that why you come out here so often?" He lay next to them, taking more time to appreciate them than the sky.

"I didn't know anybody knew I did that."

"My window is directly above us."

"Oh." Their fingers dug into their clothes as a particularly loud bang echoed from inside. Streaks of light reflected in their eyes and they trailed across the sky. "Why do people wish on shooting stars?"

"Shooting stars were seen as a symbol of the gods looking down at that moment. Wishing on a shooting star meant you were more likely to be heard."

They squeezed their eyes shit as the next star flew past. For the first time that night they glanced over to Vision. It was only for a second but he didn't miss it. He couldn't, since he had been looking at them for the entire time.
