To put it mildly, not being able to see colour is frustrating. People aways said when you met your soulmate they would unlock a part of yourself and the colour would come rushing in, like in certain video games when you got enough XP or gold.

Most people thought it was romantic, only being able to see the true beauty of the world once you met the love of your life or whatever and for a while I agreed with them.

As time went on and my vision stayed the same dull shades the concept just got boring. The feeling of doubt began to sink in and for years I thought I would never meet my soulmate. It was a relief when I began to feel a pull to look for them. I became hopeful but as time went on I began to feel the same loneliness as before.

Being the new student at Midtown high was pretty much the same as being the new student at any other school. The pupulars look down on you, the jocks make fun of you and some weird kid comes over and flirts aka Flash.

"So, you're the new kid, huh?" A guy leaning against the locker next to mine asks.

"Uh yeah, that's me." I mumble, shoving a book into my locker.

"I'm Flash."

"Y/N."

"So, have you met your soulmate yet?"

"Uh, no I haven't." I turn to look at him.

"Well then, shake my hand maybe you'll see colour." He holds his hand out for me to shake it.

"I- I think I'll pass."

"You could be making a huge mistake."

"Yeah, somehow I doubt that." I close my locker and walk away, following the crowd of students heading to lunch.

With the way students shove against each other in the corridors you'd think they were excited for their next lesson. The crowd jostled against me as I moved to avoid as many others as I could, which was harder than I thought it would be.

Someone bumps into my shoulder, making my books fall out of my hands.

"I- I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to crash into you." He panicked and crouched down to help me pick my books up.

"It's alright, no harm done." I smile, reaching for the last book. "I wasn't paying attention."

His fingers brush against mine, sending a tingly sensation up my arm. Gasping, I pulled and looked up to see him with the same shocked expression I undoubtedly had. Looking up to meet his eye, warmth spread throughout my body as I watched his eyes turn brown and the grey around me melted away.

Colour filled my vision and we both stood up, still staring at each other in surprise. "We're-"

"I'm Peter." He practically whispers.

"Y/N."

"Would you maybe wanna do something after school, today?"

"Yeah, I'd like that."
