Midnight snack

At some point we enter a small diner that, thank God, is still open at night.

Bucky: What do you want to eat?

James asks me as we stand at the order counter. I'm in the mood for everything. But I especially like sea fries. The description sounds so good that just reading it makes my mouth water. Fries topped with crab salad, yummy.

Victoria: I want Sea Fries.

I answer him and smile at him. He orders my fries, but doesn't get something himself. While waiting for my food, we sit down at one of the tables right at the entrance. The term fast food is taken seriously here. As soon as we sit down, my food is already served. Immediately I start to put the fries in my mouth. As expected, it tastes absolutely heavenly.

Victoria: God, this is so good. Are you sure you don't want to eat anything?

Bucky: Yes I am. Are you sure it's a good idea to eat something greasy right now? Not that you're going to get sick.

Victoria: Probably not. But.... who can tell for sure before?

I don't know what, but something about my statement makes him chuckle. A beautiful sound. I ate the whole portion in no time. Luckily, I'm not sick.

Bucky: Okay, now that you've eaten, can I take you home?

But I don't want to go home just yet. I'm really comfortable with him and actually enjoy spending time with him. I'm thinking about how to extend the evening when I see a sign advertising churros. I love churros and they are the perfect excuse to stay here longer.

Victoria: Can I have some churros first?

Again I look at him with puppy eyes, hoping that this works as well as before.

Bucky: Ok, a batch of churros for Ms. Parker, coming in a minute.

I literally pine after him as he goes back to the counter to order the churros. What is wrong with me? Normally I have no real interest in any man. Men serve me occasionally to satisfy certain needs, but beyond that I have no interest in spending time with them. But James...... no idea why, but he's kinda different. I really like being with him, even though I've only met him for the second time today. When James comes back to our table, I quickly glance down at the table, hoping it isn't too obvious that I was staring after him. Just like the fries, the churros taste great. An idea occurs to me. I take a churro out of the bowl and hold it out to James.

Victoria: Try one.

Bucky: No thanks, I'm not that fond of sweets.

Victoria: Please? Just one.... for me.

Again I use the puppy eyes.

Bucky: Fine, but if I get a sugar rush, it's your fault.

I can live with that. I watch intently as he takes the churro out of my hand and puts it in his mouth. Even though he's trying to hide it, and I'm drunk, I don't miss the low moan as the taste spreads in his mouth.

Victoria: Good?

Bucky: It's okay.

In fact, I have to hurry to even get a churro. Apparently James likes them better than he cares to admit. At some point I am suddenly so tired that I almost fall asleep in my chair.

Bucky: Come on, I'm really taking you home now.

I get up sleepily, rummage in my purse for my wallet and want to go to the counter to pay when James stops me and turns me towards the door.

Victoria: But I have to pay.

Bucky: No you don't have to. I already did when I got the churros.

Victoria: But you don't have to pay for me.

Bucky: It really isn't a problem. I like doing it.

That's so sweet of him. Even if it makes me feel kind of weird. I'm not used to men inviting me, which I've always found good. But up until now I never wanted them to get any hope from inviting me. Not that I'm only interested in James because he invited me tonight. Ah, maybe I shouldn't think about it too much and just be happy about it. In front of the door, we are lucky and get a taxi straight away, which takes us to my house. I'm so tired, probably from the alcohol and the greasy food, that I doze off in the car, leaning on James' shoulder. When we get there, James gets out with me.

Bucky: Would you wait a minute? I just want to make sure she gets inside safe.

He asks the driver who just smiles nicely and nods. He helps me out of the car and supports me as we walk to the front door.

Bucky: Home sweet home.

Says James as we stand on the porch. I let go of his arm and turn to face him.

Victoria: Thanks for bringing me home. And thanks for all the food and drinks.

Bucky: It was my pleasure. Seems like it's my new job now to bring you home safely.

Victoria: Sounds like a great job to me.

We smile at each other and I take a step closer to him. I wrap my arms around him and hug him. He returns the hug and for a moment it seems like we both never want to let go. Feeling his arms around me feels so good. One hard, metallic and unyielding, the other muscular yet gentle. But at some point I can hardly keep my eyes open, which is why I break the hug. Looking at his face again, I can't help but gently touch his cheek with one hand. What is he doing to me?

Victoria: Good night James.

I whisper softly for fear of ruining the moment if I speak louder.

Bucky: Good night Victoria.

One last look before I turn around, pull my key out of my purse and stagger inside. I don't bother to take my makeup off. I slip out of my clothes and crawl under the covers in only my underwear. Happy and content, I snuggle up and have James on my mind as I drift off into a deep sleep.
