Chapter 24

Tiana was too stunned to speak. She never thought she would she be in this position. She had re-read the text to make sure she didn't misunderstand it. The message was sent by the school's principal.

We regret to inform you that you have been suspended from school as from this week. The reason for your suspension is regarding the frequent absenteeism, which is affecting the students' learning. We have given you many chances to redeem yourself but it no progress has been made. The length of your suspension is for one month. The school will decide whether to reinstate you or whether you should be dismissed. We will provide the results of the decision closer to the end of the suspension. Tiana burst into tears; she couldn't believe it. This was her worst nightmare. She never thought she would ever get suspended. It felt like the whole world was ending. She could barely stand; her legs became jelly as she struggled to stop herself from collapsing.

Steve then walked into the kitchen, hearing Tiana crying. "Tiana, what happened? Why are you crying? He asked as he caught her before she fell. She didn't have the energy to respond. She just pointed to her phone. He picked up her phone and read the message.

"How can they do this? That's not fair!" He said angrily. "It's the school's policy. When I signed the contract, I read the policy and agreed to it. " Tiana admitted. "Oh, I see. I still think it's unfair. You've worked really hard there. You're a brilliant teacher." Steve said, defensively. "Yeah, I didn't think they would actually suspend me. To be fair, I didn't think I missed so much of school. " Tiana added, frustrated.

"We can still fix this. We can go and talk to the principal and let them know there has been a huge misunderstanding. The only reason  you have missed school was because you were almost killed or badly injured. They have to understand that." Steve exploded.  " I know but missing school is still missing school, regardless of the reason." Tiana added, sadly. " I hate this." Steve muttered angrily. "Me too." Tiana said, as she began to cry again.

Steve pulled her into his arms again. "I can't imagine what you're going through right now. I know how much teaching means to you. You have given so much to teaching, even your weekends. They should know you how much you have dedicated to those kids. I haven't seen anyone care about students as much as you do. Everything will work out. I will make sure that they reinstate you. I promise you, Tiana." He said, gently kissing her forehead.

"Steve, I appreciate how much you want to fight me for me but this is not your battle to fight. It's mine. I have to deal with the consequences of my actions. Even though it sucks, it's the school's decision and I will accept whatever decision they make." Tiana said, as she wiped away her tears.

"I'm proud of you, babe. That's very brave of you to think that way. You're handling it better than I thought. You know I will be here if you need me." He grinned, as he kissed her lips.
"Yeah, I know." She smiled.

"You know, I can ask Fury for a few days off so I can spend some time with you. I know how you were struggling being stuck at home for the last week." Steve said as he ran his hands through her hair. "That's very sweet of you but I think I should be alone for a few days. I need to figure out a plan B if I don't get reinstated." Tiana said, as laid on his chest.

"I understand. Take all the time you need. It's good to keep your options open. I'm glad you're taking your time with this and not making any rash decisions." Steve acknowledged. "You know, the way you're handling the situation, is low-key attractive." Steve smirked. "Is that so?" Tiana grinned. "Oh, yeah. I could kiss you  right now." He teased. "What's stopping you?" She egged. "Nothing." He said, leaning down, hovering  her lips. "Then kiss me." She said, as she pulled him down to meet his lips.
