Chapter 23

Bella's pov

"You're positive that was Dart?" Lucas asks Dustin as we walk down the train tracks. "Yes, he had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt." Dustin replies. "Well he was tiny two days ago." Max says from beside me. "Well he's molted three times already." Dustin says annoyed.

"Malted?" Steve asks from in front of me. "Molted." Dustin corrects. "He's shed his skin to make room for more growth like horn worms." Dustin explains. "Well when's he gonna molt again?" I ask worriedly. "It's gotta be soon. When he does he'll be fully grown or close to it, so will his friends." Dustin says and I sigh.

"Yeah, and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats." Steve says and I share a surprised look with Max. "Wait cat? Dart ate a cat?" Lucas asks as he steps in front of Dustin. "No what no." Dustin says with a shake of his head.

"What are you talking about? He ate Mews." Steve says now from beside me. "Mews? Who's Mews?" Max asks from my other side. "It's Dustin's cat." Steve says with a shrug.

"STEVE!" Dustin yells. "I knew it, you kept him." Lucas says as he hits Dustin's shoulder. "No. No. No I- no I- he missed me and he wanted to come home." Dustin trys to defend himself. "Bullshit." Lucas says. "I didn't know he was a demogorgon, okay." Dustin says defeatedly. "So now you admit it." Lucas says angrily.

"Guys who cares we have to go." Max says, trying to get out of here. "I care!" Lucas yells as he turns back to Dustin. "You put the party in jeopardy. You broke the rule of law." Lucas say in a hurt tone.

"SO DID YOU!" Dustin yells angrily. "What?" Lucas asks confused. "You told a stranger the truth, and so did Steve." Dustin says as he shines his flashlight in Max and I's faces. "A stranger?" Max asks offended.

"You wanted to tell her too." Lucas defends himself. "Yeah but I didn't Lucas, okay I didn't tell her. We both broke the rule of law okay. So we're even. We're even." Dustin says and Steve and I stop listening as we hear roaring in the distance. I grab his hand out of fear and he shines his flashlight around.

"Hey guys." Steve calls out to the others. "GUYS!" I yell getting their attention. They turn to look at Steve and I as we hear more roaring. Steve and I walk in the direction we heard the noise and Dustin and Lucas follow shortly behind.

We walk out into a clearing on a hill overlooking a building. "I don't see them." Dustin says and Lucas gets out his binoculars. "It's the lab." Lucas says as he looks through his binoculars. "They were going back home." Lucas says as he puts down the binoculars. Steve, Dustin, and Lucas share a worried look and begin to walk down the hill.
