Chapter 31

"Steve what the hell are you doing?" I ask him as he walks to the front door. "Somebody has to get him out of here." Steve responds as he looks at me. "Steve-" I begin before he cuts me off. "I'll be fine Bell." He says with a reassuring smile. I go to protest again but before I can he walks out the front door.

Dustin, Lucas, Mike, and Max all crowd onto the couch in the Byers living room and I sigh and start pacing back and forth worried for Steve. And worried what Billy will do if he finds Max and I here.

Steve's pov

I walk out the front door and onto the Byers front porch as Billy gets out of his Camaro. "Am I dreaming or is that you Harrington?" Billy asks as he takes his cigarette out of his mouth with a smile. "Yeah it's me don't cream your pants." I say sarcastically with my hands on my hips.

Billy puts his cigarette back in his mouth and takes off his jacket as I walk down the steps of the Byers front porch. "What are you doing here amigo?" Billy asks as he walks towards me. "I could ask you the same thing, amigo." I reply as we come face to face with one another.

"I'm looking for my sisters. A little birdie told me they were here." Billy says. "Huh, that's wierd I didn't know you had more than one sister." I say with a shrug. "Small, redhead, bit of a bitch." He says and I clench my fist by my side. "Doesn't ring a bell. Sorry bud." I say trying to hurry the conversation along. "I think you know what the other one looks like." Billy says with a glare. "Yeah, but she's not here." I say as I unclench my fist at the thought of Bella.

"You know, I don't know this, this while situation Harrington, I don't know, it's giving me the hebie gebies." Billy says as he takes his cigarette out of his mouth. "Oh yeah, why's that?" I ask trying not to show any emotion. "My thirteen and seventeen year old sisters go missing, all day, and then I find them with you, at a strangers house, and you lie to me about it." Billy says with a shrug.

"Man were you dropped to much as a child or what?" I ask with a small chuckle. Billy blows smoke in my face and smiles. "I don't know what you don't understand about what I just said. They're not here." I say with a shake of my head. "Then who are they?" Billy asks as he point to the Byers window. I turn around and see the kids on the couch looking out the window at us and Bella pacing behind them.

The kids quickly duck down and Bella looks out the window at Billy and I. Bella and I make eye contact and I hear Billy laugh. "Oh shit." I say as I turn back to look at him. "Listen-" I begin before he cuts me off by pushing me to the ground. I groan in pain as I hit the concrete."I told you to stay away from Isabella." Billy says menacingly as he kicks me in my chest.

Bella's pov

I gasp as I see Billy push Steve to the ground. The kids quickly get up and I go to open the door but before I can Billy opens it instead. "Well, well, well." Billy says as he looks at all of us and slams the door behind him. "Lucas Sinclair what a surprise." Billy says as he walks towards us. "I thought I told you to stay away from him Max." Billy says as he glares at Max.

"Go away Billy." Max says quietly. "You disobeyed me. And you know what happens when you disobey me." Billy says and my eyes widen. "Billy-" I begin before he cuts me off. "I break things." Billy says as he grabs Lucas by the collar and shoves him into the Byers kitchen and pins him against a cabinet in the corner of the kitchen.

We all protest for Billy to stop but of course he ignores us. "Since Maxine won't listen to me maybe you will. You stay away from here. Stay. Away from her." Billy says and I walk closer to them. "You hear me?" Billy asks Lucas aggressively. "I said get off of me!" Lucas yells as he kicks Billy in the crotch.

"You are so dead Sinclair. You're dead." Billy says with a groan of pain. Steve then walks in front of me and turns Billy around to face him. "No, you are!" Steve says as he punches Billy in the face. I gasp and step back. "Steve!" I yell as Billy hunches over to the side and laughs.

"Looks like you've got some fire in you after all, huh?" Billy says with a smile as he points at Steve. Lucas runs back to Max, Mike, and Dustin and they wrap him in a hug. "I've been waiting to meet this 'king Steve' everybody's been telling me so much about." Billy says as he gets in Steve's face. "Get out." Steve says as he pushes Billy back. Billy looks at Steve for a few seconds and then swings at him. Steve dodges and punches Billy in the face again.

I gasp and turn around to look at the kids. "Stay out of the way." I say to them and walk closer to Billy and Steve. Steve punches Billy several more times and eventually Billy stumbles back to the kitchen counter beside the sink. Billy laughs and I see him reach his hand over and grab a plate.

"STEVE!" I scream but before he can react Billy breaks the plate over Steve's head. I gasp and run over to him to help. Billy walks towards us and goes to punch Steve but instead his fist goes towards me. I try to dodge but before I can Billy punches me in the face. I gasp and stumble to the side. I hear Billy gasp and Steve punches Billy. "DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HER!" Steve yells at Billy. Billy punches Steve and he stumbles into the living room.

Billy grabs a disoriented Steve while Max runs over to me. "Are you okay?" She quietly asks me. "Yeah." I say quietly as I hold my cheek. "No one tells me what to do." Billy says menacingly as he headbutts Steve. Steve falls to the floor as Billy cheers. Billy gets on top of Steve and punches him repeatedly. All the kids yell in horror from behind me. I look over to the table beside me and see one of the syringes with a sedative in it. I grab it and walk up behind Billy. I stab it into his neck and all of the kids gasp.

Billy stops punching Steve and gets up. He turns around and gives me a hurt look. "What the hell is this?" He asks me as I back away. "Bells what did you do?" He asks me as he continues to walk towards me. He looses his balance and falls backwards with a laugh.

Max walks in front of me with Steve's bat. "From now on you leave me and my friends alone. Do you understand?" Max asks as she holds up Steve's bat. "Screw you." Billy says from the floor. Max swings the bat down between Billy's legs and he lifts his head off the floor to look at the bat. Max takes the bat out of the floor and holds it up, ready to swing again. "SAY YOU UNDERSTAND! Say it! SAY IT!" Max screams at him and I flinch remembering all of the times my dad said something similar to me. "I understand." Billy says quietly. "What?" Max asks and I flinch yet again. "I understand." Billy says slightly louder than before. Billy passes out and Max drops the bat and walks up to Billy. She grabs his keys and holds them up for us to see.
